Get the phone number changed. But, first things first. Contact a lawyer, and see about pressing federal charges since it is across state lines. Contact the local district attorney's office in your town and in hers and see if there is anything that can be done/charges to file. |
IL won't allow an order or protection unless it's a former lover of your own or a family member - I know it's ridiculous. Yes, I have been harassed over state lines. We changed our phone number. The only advice I have is that if she calls you, don't answer and don't speak to her. Don't allow her to leave messages for you. She probably loves to hear yours or your husband's voice. If I were you, I'd let your hubby deal with all this crap and make sure you are safe. |

He could file charges against her, but I doubt law enforcement would be too sympathetic with him (I'm assuming he was a willing participant). I would PM you this Elizabeth - but I think it may serve as advice for someone else who is going thru this - this woman was probably deeply hurt & lied to by your hubby & now she is trying to ruin his life -- she probably feels that in order to properly ruin it, she has to get to you and your son, too. I am not saying that she's not wrong for what she's doing or is not a looney, but I'm sure it will stop in a little while. She'll get bored and annoyed when ignored. |

AH! I understand, now. :( |
This tells about Protection Orders in the State of Illinois: http://www.womenslaw.org/IL/IL_how_to.htm Also, everyone should know that if you can get one issued, it is now enforceable in all 50 states no matter which state has issued it. |
I suppose I should add this also, just in case...You can record all calls to your home. It is a crime if someone is calling you and threatening you or your family in any way. The tapes should be saved and taken to the police/sheriff's department where you should file a report. It will then be submitted to the County Attorney or District Attorney's Office where they will decide whether or not to file charges. |
Get a good attorney, Keep dates and all info down make copies. And do be careful. |
Well girls, I have found her weakness! :D She called me tonight and begged me not to call her mother again! I told her that everytime she contacts us in anyway, I'm going to call her mother and she was UPSET at the thought of that! :D Maybe this will end it! |
Good luck with this. Living looking over your shoulder is no fun. I watch and I wait for the day that the one I put in jail losses his marbles and trys to come find me. Not sure he will. Hope he will not but it hangs there. Maybe old age will just catch up with me. I am not overly worried but play with great care on borads like this that are open to the public. I like this board as there are many Joys and many lucys and it helps keep one safe. But living in fear for what if and when is not living. Joy |
you might try putting a message like this on your voice mail system: I'm sorry we can't come to the phone right now but you must leave a message. We are receiving annoyance calls and the phone company has a trap on this line. If you do not leave a message we will assume that you are the annoyance caller and this call will be traced and forwarded to the local authorities. If you answer the phone and the harassing caller is on the line, another suggestion is to say: "Operator, this is the call." Then hang up. |
Good idea! |

I do know that anything with the home phone like getting a new # , leaving a message is almost impossible in Elizabeth's business. Although she may have an office #, it is her home phone that she counts on for business too. If you have two home #'s then I surely would change my number. I'm glad you feel you have hit a sore spot with her but I think the more you ignore her the better....she is getting her kicks by hearing you upset. Hang in there gal, she'll have another guy in her life in no time. |
