I AM SOOO tired... My smoke detector started going off at like 1:00 AM- not the normal sound, just a couple of beeps every few minutes. I don't think it constitutes an emergency as per the apartments guidelines for an emergency, so I don't want to call maintenance- plus all the guys who work here have families and I feel bad waking someone and their whole family up in the middle of the night if it is something stupid. The dogs were freaking out, plus I was worried about the small chance it is Carbon Dioxide so I ran them over to my parents house real quick (yes at 1:00AM, my parents SO love me right about now  ) My parents told me to stay there also, but I felt like that was a bad idea to leave an apartment with a smoke detector going off- so I came back. Now I am WIDE AWAKE! I can't sleep because A) this beeping wakes me up every few minutes and B) I keep thinking if it IS Carbon Dioxide I won't wake up, :p I can be a small bit dramatic sometimes (I did open all the windows) So anyway, now I am up and tired and entertaining myself on YT and you all get to hear me whine! If you read the whole thing- you get a cookie! |
First off, can't wait for a cookie.;) Second, are you sure it's not the sound of your (back up) battery dying? Most of them are programmed to have annoying beeps to let you know it's getting low so you can change the battery. I'm sure if it was Carbon Monoxide & there's an alarm for that you would def know it, as it'd probably be beeping you into insanity. They're really sensitive & can usually detect it before it's at a dangerous level. Just my 0.02, if it helps, good, if not at least I helped you kill about 1 whole minute reading it.:) |

I figured the Carbon Monoxide (thanks by the way! no idea why I wrote Dioxide in the first post- well lack of sleep comes to mind I guess :p ) noise would be more annoying. I just don't understand why the battery couldn't start to die at 1:00pm instead of 1:00am. |
I didn't notice you wrote dioxide instead of monoxide, so maybe I don't get a cookie.:( Since you said you're in a new place I wonder if you have some hip new detector that has you change the batteries every six months (since that's recommended & that's about how long you've been there.) But yes, that's messed up they can't do it in the P.M. instead of A.M. It reminds me of my parents under the counter radio/clock in the kitchen. Ever since they've got it the alarm goes off at midnight every night. They've set it to go off at other times & it will, yet still goes off at midnight.:rolleyes: |
That would have to be the battery. When the battery starts to go on ours, we just take the thing out to get some peace. lol |

It's the battery. Is it too high to reach to either remove the battery until (well not it's ) morning? I hate when that happens :( |
So I am alive :) They built these apartments with high ceilings- apparently it is a "luxury" upgrade- but it just means even with a chair or stepstool I can't reach it! LOL- plus the only way to get the whole thing down is to cut wires, which would not please them. I ended up falling asleep- the beeping wasn't so bad without the dogs here- they made it worse by freaking out every time it beeped. I have now called maintenance and hopefully they come soon- so I can go get my babies back! |
