Do you sew? Come check out my blog with little dog sewing tutorials! 2 Attachment(s) Hi everyone! I've been working really hard on my blog and sewing business. Sam & Loki are such good models for me so we have been able to post a bunch of great sewing tutorials and I have so many more coming up. Please come visit us on my blog! Erin Erickson - Dog Under My Desk Little Dog Tie Tutorial Little Dog Harness Tutorial Mini Applique Tutorial (A pillowcase bed w/ Sammy's name) I also post lots of sewing tips. I know we have lots of people who sew on YT and I would love to connect with you! |
I love your patterns and tutorials! I'm also a sewer - though with Wally around, I haven't been able to spend as much time at my machine as I could before. :) I will definitely give the harness pattern a try...I might even make him one out of fleece for the cold mornings. Thanks for sharing! |
I am a novice sewer...I got a sewing machine and used it only a couple times. Now that you posted these, I will have no reason not to use them!! :D Thanks for sharing!! |

Great Tutorials!! They are so clear and the photos are great!! Quality work! And Sammy & Loki are precious!! |
What a great Blog and awesome tutorials. Thank you very much for sharing. I will definitely have to try making one of the harnesses. |
I will have to look into your blog and patterns as I would like to sew new items for Buster. |
Thank you Erin! Your tutorials, instructions and pictures are great, easy and very clear. Sammy & Loki are precious. I'm a challenged sewer :D, I will definitely being following your instructions. |
Thanks everyone! I'm going to be posting more tutorials - a fleece dog bed is definitely coming soon. I'd also like to make a pattern for another style of carrier. I have lots of non-dog related ideas as well, it's so fun to keep making stuff for Sam & Loki :) Is there anything you would like to know how to make? Basically the way I decide between pattern & tutorial is how complex the instructions and design are (and therefore how much time I spend on it - tutorials take me a day or two, patterns take several weeks). For things like the harnesses with multiple sizes - every dog is different and so I couldn't possibly sell a pattern with every size so I just made a tutorial showing HOW to make the harness, and posted Sam & Loki's sizes. I've made hanging bells, but they were so simple I just posted the finished picture, but that is something I would happily post a tutorial for if there is an interest! If you want to follow me you can subscribe to my RSS feed or come "Like" me on Facebook! Please come visit and comment too! I love comments because otherwise I feel like I'm just writing to myself sometimes :) |
Fleece Dog Bed Tutorial 1 Attachment(s) Hey everyone! I posted a dog bed tutorial this morning - Fleece Dog Bed Tutorial | Erin's Blog - Dog Under My Desk Hope you enjoy! |
Love it! I think you do a pretty good job explaining things. I have a hard time following direction like this and can't sew very well. Someday I keep saying I'm going to take lessons but I never seem to do it! Maybe I'll try the bed one of these days! I'd love to see a tutorial on the hanging bells! |

Thanks for sharing! I would love to learn how to sew with my machine. I am a scrapbooker and I know this might sound crazy, but my machine rarely touches fabric. I sew onto a lot of my scrapbooking projects (layouts, cards, etc.) I'll check out your blog! :) |

As some know...Bella likes to bring treats to her bed (and her sister's beds:rolleyes:) that are let's just say less than edible to the average dog. Thus the reason for a washable cover. Btw...I also signed up for your blog and hoping to be a winner and get a free pattern for the Sammy Bag to make, too!:p Your tutorials are awesome! |
I absolutely love the bed tutorial!!!! I am going to make one or two or three for my guys:D Your instructions are so easy to follow and you have such creative ideas. |
Aww! Thanks everyone! :D I'm so happy everyone likes the dog bed. That is probably the most popular thing on my site. Maybe because dog beds are so expensive and making them is so easy? Or because Loki is cute? I really think he sells it. Napping is very important to him! Quote:
I'm also going to be making rectangular beds with zips in the next week or so. Our Big Dog friend is going to be staying with us for a weekend soon, and I want to make him a new bed before he comes. My neighbor with Weims have been asking too. It will have a zipper like the one I made here: Zippered Quilted Dog Bed | Flickr - Photo Sharing! and it's SO SO easy to install the zipper. I totally cheated, but it's a dog bed. I make sure my purses have nice linings and no raw edges and everything, but do you care what the inside of your dog bed looks like? No! So I cheated. :) You could use home dec, quilted cotton, fleece or whatever you want for this one. It's better to use a stretchy fabric to get the cuddle ball effect on the fleece bed, but this new one could use any fabric. I know sometimes fleece doesn't always match everyone's decor, so this way you can have a cuddle bed upstairs and a nice looking bed downstairs :) (We have 2 bedrooms and 1 living area and 6 of these dog beds, so clearly my dogs have priority over color scheme!) Also a warning: Loki will rarely sleep in my bed anymore because he LOVES his bed (it's next to our bed). He comes up to snuggle if he's cold or tell me he's hungry. Otherwise he's all about his fleece bed. This may or may not be a good thing for you, depending on if you like having dogs in your bed! PS. If you have a Kohl's nearby, I just got an email that their "Big Ones" pillows are on sale for $5.99, and if you are lucky enough to get their 20-30% off coupons brings them under $5. I've gotten them as cheap as $3.50 before, but this is still a good deal. They are a little loftier than the $4-5 pillows from Target and WalMart, so they are my first choice for cheap pillows! |

What's wrong with Bella's bed smelling like Eau de Poo?? |
Sewing is my passion! I love making dresses out of onesies for Mina. I used to make smocked things for my daughters and am hoping to find time to draft a pattern and make a smocked dress for Mina. For people I make period clothes for a rennisance faire here. I haven't posted pics because I just haven't figured out how. Maybe I should get one of the teenagers around here to do it for me. I really like what you have been making and absolutely love the fabrics that you have chosen. All of your things are lovely and I look forward to seeing more pictures! |
