Power just now on since Wednesday I am just now getting a chance to get online after having our power restored since the tornados came through our area Wednesday. The destruction has been awful. I feel guilty for saying it, but my family was VERY lucky. The tornado that hit my county created major damage literally feet from our home. We had shingles off, the front column knocked down, and some siding gone. Many of my neighbors weren't as lucky, nor were other people in our county. My next door neighbor had a tree on his house. The tornado came diagonally from us. If you were to go out my back door and walk straight, you would run into a house that was a total loss. We have been busy cleaning up around our house as well as helping friends and neighbors to salvage what they could from the total loss of their homes. Please keep everyone in Chickasaw County as well as other areas in our state of MS and the other states affected in your thoughts and prayers. There is a long way to go for a lot of people. And a BIG thanks goes out to our local electric power men as well as those that came up from LA to help in our area!!! Your round-the-clock dedication to helping get our power back up and running has been AWESOME!! |
So glad to hear that you are safe. The destruction from the storms is just unbelievable! They were reporting on the news tonight that they are classifying them as E4 and E5. Just unbelievable. |
I am so thankful that you and your family are okay and that you didn't have a total loss of your home. It is heart wrenching what has happened to so many. Best wishes to you! |
Thank Goodness you & your family are all Ok & safe. I have been wondering how many YTrs live in the storm areas & praying for everyone affected. It is unbelievable the destruction caused & how many lives have been lost, so sad. |
Thank God you're ok!! We're fine at our house (north alabama) but now they're saying we won't get power back till Tuesday or Wednesday. I heated water on the grill today to take a bath. I need to wash my hair so bad! We have it so much better than so many though!! Counting our blessings!! |
Oh, how horrible that it came that close and did such damage to neighbors' homes but how wonderful your home was spared except for a few things. Were you there when the storm hit? You must have been terrified if you were! I sure am glad your power is back on as it is so hard to try to live these days without anything - lights, stove, A-C, heat, frig, etc. We did without power a couple of days last year during a bad snow and it was really freezing with no heat - had to stay with my sister. I am keeping you and everyone in that awful storm's path in my prayers as it is mind boggling what incredible damage this thing did. It is a wonder even more weren't killed or severely injured. |

Here is a link to the tornado that came by my house!!! At the very beginning there is a fork in the road that I go down to get to my house. That tornado was beside my house at that time!!!! |
omg... I am so sorry for you and the people of your town. I have been praying all my YT friends were ok. I do understand what you are going through... I lived in Miami when Andrew hit.. we lost a lot... but not any lives:p that is the most important. |
I'm so glad you and your family are safe, without much loss. My heart is heavy for all your neighbors that has lost so much. It's just unimaginable to me. I know how good it is to get power back on when you've been without for so many days. |
Oh Barbara, I'm so sorry your area was damaged horribly by this monster. How fortunate your family and home were spared in this devastation, I can't imagine how! With as many tornadoes as we've had, I have never seen damage this widespread and catastrophic. My thoughts and prayers continue to be with all of you, bless your hearts. |
I am so happy your family and Sophie are safe. I've been watching the coverage of Smithville about the EF-5 that hit there. They were talking about the destruction and that 15 people had been killed. I didn't know you were in that area, so I'm very happy to know you are ok.:) I'm very sorry about any friends in the area. That is heartbreaking. |
Thank God you are all ok and only minor damage. I will keep all of you and the other victims in my prayers. |
How scary! I am glad to hear that everyone is okay, but I feel horrible for those who have lost so much :( |
Wow, how scary to know it came SO close! Thankfully you are all safe. We went without power or running water for 9 days after hurricane Charlie, so I know what a halellujah moment it is when everything flicks back on! lol. :) |
