Extreme Couponing Anyone watch the premiere last night? So they showed 4 women who spent 6 hours a DAY preparing for their shopping trip. They buy outrageous amounts of products at the food store. Like 75 bottles of mustard. 35 bottles of chewable Malox and one women even got 5 jars of those calcium chews bc with her coupons and them being on sale, she actually MADE $1 a jar!!! One women stockpiled 250 rolls of papertowels and 450 rolls of TP!!! I mean to watch it was amazing, but I could NOT imagine doing a food shopping like this EVER in my life. They would use 500 coupons in 1 shopping trip. I don't know how they can do the math and work it all out in their head! Its crazy for sure! I was hoping for some helpful tips to save some $$, but not to buy 75 bottles of mustard! I never want to do a $1900 grocery shopping even if it does comes out to $103 in the end. That is WAY too much to haul home and put away! LOL |
I saw the beginning of the show. I don't understand how they do it. I cut coupons out of the paper but I never find that many for all the items I would buy. I'm happy if I save 10 or 12 dollars when I go shopping! |
I wanted to see that show and missed it! :( I actually never use coupons but I probably should. But you bring up a lot of good points. How do you even load a shopping cart, or how many does it take to fill up $1900 worth of goods? |
If they need to save that much money, they can take the 6 hours they spent cutting coupons and go get a job or something! I didn't watch the show, but it sounds silly to me. |
I've watched this show a couple of times now, and although their savings is impressive, it wouldn't be for me. To be that successful with couponing you have to devote serious time to gathering (and sometime spaying for) coupons, making lists, watching sales, hours shopping and ...OMG...the checkout would be a nightmare! For awhile I did belong to a "Frugal Mom" newsletter. The writer always reminded us of just how valuable your time is. And if your time could save more or make more money doing something else besides couponing, you were better off. I shop mainly the perimeter of the store and you don't find too many coupons for those items....fresh foods. I have found several grocery items we use, through Amazon subscription service and do save about half of what Wal Mart charges, like for coffee, tea, etc. I don't need (nor have the room for) a stockpile of toothpaste, deodorant, gatorade, or 150 boxes of pasta. I did wonder how that one woman would ever use 7 gallons of milk before it's expiration date was up. |
what network is this show on I want to watch it. I love finding ways to save money |
I believe it's on TLC. Last night had a new episode and then a rerun episode. |
They are just one step away from hoarders... I watched one show and it scared me. Sad thing is most of the products they buy, toothpaste, shampoo and such are tested on animals and not made in the USA. |
We watched one that was on before and noticed that all the foods they stocked up on were canned, boxed, and not very healthy =/ There was one woman who said she only buys what she needs and she did buy fruits and vegetables. I think I like variety too much to shop like that  I change up my toothpaste, my shampoo, my deodorant, everything lol. I don't think I could buy 50 of one thing and use the same kind for the next 10 years. |
Here's the link to the opening show for those of us that missed it :D Extreme Couponing : Videos : TLC |

Did any of the people on there have jobs? |
I watched it and although I thought it was really cool how much money they save here are my issues: 1 - doesn't the food expire before they can use it? (at least that one guy was donating a lot to his church). 2 - I'm not willing to have my house look like a grocery store - they have stuff stacked in their living room!! 3 - I can't IMAGINE spending 5 hours in a grocery store - that would be plain torture. 4 - Their life is CONSUMED by this couponing.....they have to spend so many hours a day just doing this. 5 - Really....dumpster diving for coupons? Ummmm nope! |

Exactly, the $ they save on food and misc. they spend on heating and cooling space to store all the excess. It's like 6 of one and half a dozen of the other. |
I wanted to see it also and missed it. I've heard the same thing from others on other forums, as well. I would never stockpile shop, or shop things that I don't use just because its on sale or have a coupon for. The show did sound interesting though and hopefully will catch it next time. |

I saw the show and OMG the one lady goes into the trash to get coupons. I'm for saving money but I'm not going into peoples trash cans to get their coupons. And the look the cashiers give them when they see them coming. |
