Daughter Got 1st Ticket Today My daughter, 21, got her fist ticket today for rolling through a stop sign. She was so upset with herself. I had to laugh, because she called me and in a very somber voice said, guess what. I immediately assumed she was in an accident and my heart sank and started beating fast. She said she got her first ticket for rolling through a stop sign. In the realm of life, it wasn't "that" bad. Only $133.00. LOL. She didn't understand my relief or appreciate my giggles of joy that she's ok. Do you remember your first ticket? I have only had 1, 25 years ago for speeding on my way home from college for the funeral of our local vet who I had once worked for. I will never forget it. |
My first ticket was a parking ticket - too close to a fire hydrant. My son gets tickets and lets them sit, then they add on penalties and they cost him even more. Will he ever learn:confused:?? |
I can proudly say that I've been driving for 34 years and have never gotten a ticket. (knock wood). lol My daughter who will be 20 next week got a ticket when she was 18 for exactly what your daughter got hers for. She just had surgery on her knee about 2 weeks before and she had a knee immobilizer on her left leg and she was stopped but also was trying to put her seat back a little because her seat was too close probably rolled a bit also. Cop didn't even want to hear it. Her ticket was about the same $140 or so. I hate those phone calls that begin with a somber "mom". My heart just can't take it. |
Knock wood, I've never gotten one. However, I had my first accident when I had only been driving for a few weeks. My dad (who was a CHP officer) was up in L.A. for the day, so I sat cowering on the couch with a blanket over my head until he got home (I was 17 at the time.) I was terrified that he was going to flip. Instead, he walked in to the house and called out "Hey 'Crash'" and walked upstairs. The man was good at psyching me out. Nothing is more frightening than telling your parent's you messed up :p |
Yes I remember my first speeding ticket- no excuse really- I have a lead foot and am lucky I only have the one to my name. |
I've been driving for 32 years and haven't had a ticket yet...hopefully this post won't jinx me :) I did get stopped once though. My husband bought me a little convertible for my birthday back when you had to put the white slip of paper in the front window when you got a new car...remember that? Anyway, the officer didn't see a plate and he couldn't see the window sticker with the top down so he pulled me over but once he saw the paper he let me go...I was so nervous I about wet my pants! |
Wow, I am really impressed by those who have never had a ticket. Kudos to you! I hope this thread does not jinx you. :D:D I have only had the one, but I have had my share of luck with just a warning as well. |
I remember ALL my tickets.:D Luckily they were long ago and they have fallen off my driving record My first was for speeding on my way to work. |

I'm much more conservative in my old age. ;) |
I am 57 ....... no tickets ... yet. Now I will probably one tomorrow. |
Wow, it is impressive how many of you don't have any tickets. The cops around where I live have nothing better to do than radar for speeding. I had several when I was a teenager, but went 5 years without one and recently got one for 30 in a school zone... I didn't know it was a school zone yet, but I am a teacher :p |
In our state, we can plead a good driving record and beat the ticket. So every three years you can get one free speeding ticket  But I of course have never gotten one :angelhalo |

Maybe we should all say where we have lived because all of my tickets were in Cook County, Illinois where traffic tickets are a major source of revenue. :D I doubt I could get a ticket where I live now. |

Glad it was just a ticket. I got my first ticket after 33 years of driving for the same thing. I swear I stopped. My 24 year old dtr got stopped last summer for speeding, they cop let her go with a warning but ticketed her for not having her proof of insurance in her car. She worked for our car insurance company! First I knew was when she got a letter in the mail saying they were going to suspend her license for not having insurance. She never went and showed her proof. She assured me she would take care of it. 3 weeks later she got a notice saying they were going to suspend her license plates too. Once again she said she would take care of it. NOT. 2 days before Thanksgiving we get a call from her, not her cell # with that somber MOM, can you come down to the police station and bring 300.00! I am what happened, just come please. So my husband and I drive the 45 minute drive with my heart in my mouth wondering what was going on. On her way home from work the cop ran her plates and saw the suspension and arrested her. This town has nothing better to do, she wasn't stopped for any other reason. I was so mad at her. All she had to do was go to the court house when she was first stopped and show her proof of insurance. She has always had insurance. So we had to get an attorney and went to court twice. Once to show her proof if insurance to reinstate her license and plates and the other for the suspensions. We got a real tough prosecutor and he wouldn't drop the charges but if we paid a bigger fine he would reduce it to driving without her license on her and 3 months supervision. The fine alone was 500.00. Now I am so worried she will get a ticket during the supervision period. She has never been in trouble before but now I am on her all the time! lol |
Patti: wow, what an ordeal. It is so frustrating when good kids make an honest mistake and then they are made an example out of when there are bigger problems, and real criminals out there to deal with. |

My first and only ticket was for "running a red light" which was wrong, wrong, wrong. I had started into the intersection on greed, it blipped yellow for a split second and then red! Anyway, the officer came to court and agreed that they had checked and the light was faulty. I gave him a very big smile. |
I was 17 when I got my first ticket. Speeding down the highway. I was going 77 in a 55 and got a $170 ticket. This was 17 years ago. I have never got a speeding ticket again, but I did get ticketed for an unregistered vehicle (I had NO idea my registration ran out) and 2x for an expired inspection sticker, in MA. (those are $50 tickets). None of those were moving violations and come on, who really LOOKS at their sticker to notice it expired? At least in NH its the same month as your birthday for everything so you know to do it. HAHA I have had nothing in almost 10 years ... hoping to keep it that way!! :) I do have a bit of a lead foot though! |
I got pulled over when I was 16 for an illegal u-turn (even though I didn't do a complete 180*, I just went around a median!) but got a warning. I got pulled over again when I was 20 for speeding. He hadn't actually clocked my speed so he wrote it for 10 over (I was actually doing 25 over! I was late for work.) so I didn't argue w/ him. :D Been clean since then (4 years). |
(knock on wood) I've not gotten a ticket yet, (well parking ticket, but that doesn't count). I'm 22 and if I were your daughter I would also not appreciate the giggles :p I think I'll have a heart attack the first time it happens. lol I remember several of my mother's tickets though... heheh |
