Gas overflowed onto my new shoes! Has anyone ever had this happen to them?? The pump did not automatically shut off. I was looking at the dollars add up on the pump and didn't notice the tank had overflowed A LOT until I looked down. The pump's LED gallon counter was not in working order either. I am SO upset because they were brand spankin' new New Balance 856 cross-training shoes. The local gas station said they can't do anything about it at their level, so the store manager gave me the number to the District Manager. She gave me the Corporate Office's number. When I called the Corporate number, they said they were NOT the store to call. They took my number and will let me know who to call. Sorry this is so long. Just needed to VENT!:mad: I bet I am out a new pair of shoes! |
If you set them out in the sun it should evaporate and you probably won't know it happened. |
I washed them 3 times with bleach and they are drying in the sun today. So far, they still smell like gas.:thumbdown Hopefully, the smell will evaporate in the sun. |

Okay, now that is a bad day. If it makes you feel any better, I drove away in my car with the pump still in my gas tank. Twice. I'm thinking gas in the shoes is worse though... |
That did happen to me and the gas went all over my leather shoes. What a mess! I went inside and spoke to them and of course they did nothing. Then DH went to the station and had a word and they paid for my shoes. This was several years ago that this happened to me. I hope you recovery the money on your shoes. |
Find out the oil company that more than likely owns the station. I operate a gas/service station. If something like this happened to a customer I would call the oil company that owns the station (the actual building and pump maintenance people). The operator of the gas station should know who that is. If it were me. I'd suck it up and offer to pay for a new pair of shoes if you brought in the receipt, just to keep you happy and a customer and hopefully get your friends & family's business too. That's too bad that they can't see beyond the immediate $ outflow to realize the potential in being a GREAT customer service station. Then I'd call the oil company who owns the station (it's a sunoco station but the building and pumps are owned by Aranco oil) and demand they reimburse me for your shoes because their pumps were not in proper working order. HA! I hope you get what you deserve from that! Sorry about your new shoes! :( |

In CA our anti pollution regulations are so harsh, I think a station would get in a lot of hot water if their pumps spilled a drop. Don't know how tough rules are in TX. And did you have to pay the full amount on the pump? At over $4 per gallon, I would be counting the number of drops that spilled. |
