Layoffs! 38 people (about 10% of my company) were laid off today. :( It's a sad day at work. Sometimes it's almost harder to be a 'survivor' of layoffs. More work, less people, still taking unpaid time off, so more work with less time to do it. Plus the sadness and the morality. I watched good people get let go today. That is hard! :( |
That's just awful. I would probably be one of the last people to get laid off where I work - but it terrifies me to think that people that I work with and care about could lose their jobs through no fault of their own. I would rather take a pay cut than see that happen. But it sounds like you already have had pay cuts in the form of unpaid time off. |
I am so sorry to hear that. You just don't know how my heart goes out to them good people. Jobs are tough to get now a days, the younger generation better see that when they get something they better hold on for as long as possible. With the gas prices these days(and gonna get worse) I wouldn't be surprised if there were folks who could not even afford to drive to work anymore. I wish our Country were in a better state. If we all would just get down and do an "knee mail" to God, things WOULD get better! |
Yes, we've all taken 4 weeks off a year unpaid last year and 2.5 weeks the year before and so far this year, 4 days with more to come. My company is in a sad state of affairs right now. I think they will get rid of 2 of our buildings at this point and consolidate people left in them to our central location. It's all soooooooo sad! :( |
so sad... the poor families!! I am a teacher in Florida.. it is bad!! I have 23 years in and one more step to the top.. but salarys were frozen three years ago. I am making almost 20,000.00 maybe 24,000.00 less than I projected I would be making at this point. It makes me mad that a person who has one more year in the system is making at least 12,000.00 a year more (our step increases are not even.. some years it could be $500.00 .. etc.) I also lost all my etras. I just sigh and thank God I still have a job, my dh is doing well and I love my dogs!!! |
It is extremely stressful to work in an environment when you don't know who may be next. To see people walked out of the building being fired is the hardest thing ever. I am so sorry you have to deal with this! |
I've been laid off a bunch of times in my short(ish) working career. By the time I was 28 I had been laid off about 4x. I know how it is and I don't view it with fear. However, some of the people who were let go of here today have been here most of their working lives (20-30 years HERE) and DO fear change and layoffs. Part of me wishes it WERE me who was laid off. I am very unhappy in my job now, my duties have changed sooo much and really I'm doing work below what I used to do so I'm bored and unchallenged. Benefits are so terrible I got off our insurance and onto my boyfriend's insurance so I don't need the insurance through here anymore. I drive a very hard commute, 40 miles each way of heavy traffic most of the way. I would love to have the free time unemployment would give me to LOOK for a new job closer to home. It's hard to job search when you work full time too. I was spared even though I HATE it here and others who loved it here were let go. I feel bad! I'm only going to keep looking for a new job and leave on my own eventually, I wish I could have told that to someone BEFORE the layoffs. |
Its so sad to here thats a large amount. So many in need nowdays. |
My company insurance.com sold and closed, just like that. They had laid off about 100 people the summer before and the rest of us 144 lost out jobs the end of July but got paid until Oct. I am still umeployes and now going crazy. the novelty has worn off and I am bored. The longer I go without a job the harder it seems to get. Good vibes that your company picks up and stays afloat |
It's always sad to read about people being laid off. It's even worse when they are older and long-term employees. |
That is a tough situation. It is very hard on the people laid off and the people who are left to pick up the slack. I was laid off 6 years ago after 33 years on the job. It was devastating at first but it allowed me to be home full time to take care of my father in law, Mom and Dad in their final years. My Dad would have had to go to a nursing home, his worst fear, had I not been laid off and able to care for him. This economy is scary. |
It is scary. I haven't been able to find anything close to the pay I was making and I am so bored right now. Its hard on your self esteem when this happens even though its not my fault the company sold and closed. |
