Wow, thank you so much for your responses! This is so encouraging.

I've decided to take this idea and run with it. Right now, I am supposed to be working on a senior project (I'm an English major, graduating in May), and I'm going to scrap my previous idea and instead create a prototype for this new magazine's first issue.

Honestly, I don't know much about the business and financial aspects of publishing a magazine, but I will start with the prototype and see where it goes from there.

Thanks so much for your enthusiasm and wonderful replies; they've really encouraged me and convinced me that I can branch out and really do something I'm passionate about... It seems like maybe the "What am I going to do with my life?" question that has been hovering like a dark cloud over my head for the past year has finally been answered!

If you have any more suggestions for features you'd like to see in a Yorkie lovers' publication, please let me know! I really hope this can, in a few months, turn into a real business venture!!

I think it's a great idea! There's a lot of people on here you could probably work with to get articles and ads from too!

On a serious note: Put your idea on paper along with your working title. Place it in a self addressed, stamped envelope and mail it to yourself. DO NOT open it! It will serve as copyright protection until you are ready to submit your final product name and plan, etc. to the Library of Congress. I've seen ideas for printed publication and artworks stolen with the artist left with no proof they came up with it first.
Protect yourself before you show your plans to anyone else.

Not sure how it works in the states, but it's also recommended that someone else signs and verifies it's your work too, cause in Canada the sign it, date it and send it idea doesn't always hold up in court. I know in Canada if you go to the intellectual property office it's only $50-60 to have them verify the copyright on smaller written works. Or at least it was that a few years ago.

Like those ones too; but listing ref page for reputable breeders...er that is a bit problematic. Maybe though, how about Breeder Interview Spread; journalist goes out to their home; photographs, interviews etc

I do believe that your idea would fill a huge void in the magazine world. I would love to subscribe to your magazine. It would be great to "feature" one or more "plain ole yorkie & owner" each month and allow readers to share stories about their beloved companions.....

Also a doggie recipe section

Advice from vets

A classified section for people to list yorkie items for sale, but NEVER YORKIES

Of course pictures, pictures and more pictures

Travel Tips

Training

My own personal list of wants in a publication such as this would go on and on and on.....

I am very interested. Sign me up for sure. Great idea. I am always looking in the pet stores for any thing yorkie. Go for it. You can always take a poll, then take that in and show your boss. That would convince her that it would be a fantastic idea. Good Luck. I will be watching for any updates.
