Has your bf considered allergy shots? They would probably work for him. If he didn't immediately react to the cat violently, chances are he isn't super allergic. I should know as I have SEVERE pet allergies and react immediately with hives/wheezing/etc. when I'm around animals. The allergy shots have done wonders for me and I don't have to be on meds everyday. I have my cat, Suki, who I refused to get rid of when I found her as a stray. I will say from experience that the allergy shots and just being around her constantly have reduced my reactions to her almost completely. I do occasionally have an outbreak around her, but those are few and far between now. I would look into your options before giving up your baby! |
One of my good friends is married to a man who is highly allergic to cats. She got a hairless cat (kinda homely in my opinion, but she loves him to death and back) and her hubbie has no problems at all. Seems the hairless don't have the dander that normal kitties have. I know this doesn't help you with your current situation, but I thought I'd offer the info anyway. |
I would ask BF to get the allergy shots but he didn't really want the kitten to begin with. I kind of talked him into it and it was going to be MY kitten. Now that he's allergic, he feels really bad, but he won't go through all the steps to get his allergy under control when he didn't want the cat in the first place. My bf is very patient with me and my love of animals but asking him to get tested and a series of shots for a kitten we've only had a week is a bit much I think. I will mention it to him tonight though and see what he thinks. I wish there was a way to get him to 'put up with it' for a few months until the weather turns and gets warmer and the cat can go outside. |
HI, I had a bullterrier years ago before I got my little Snoopy, I sat outside with the yorkie in my one hand and allowed the bullterrier to smell, problem was he was rough and wanted to play and she too tiny to play. After about a week they started he started to be more gentle and they became so close she would cuddle up beside him. Think that is where her attitude comes from, she likes to nibble and play more rough than the other yorkies of mine. |
