Chicago area snow Just about everything is shut down. I am guessing we have 2 feet or more. It is up to the bottom of the mailbox, and only 2-21/2 feet of the 5 foot fence is showing. Lots of drifting. Still snowing, maybe 5+ inches yet, and still real windy. Going down to -10 to -15 tonight. We had to go and shovel a path for the dogs out of the side door. It was almost up to my waist. Cars stranded in Downtown Chicago. Nothing moving, several train lines on a limited schedule. I have no seen one car going down Quentin Road. Airports are shut, and who knows when they will plow our street. Big thing will be where to put all of this snow. Will continue until 3 pm. I am only going to shovel one path on the 3- Car driveway to get the SUV out. Today is the day I wish I had my big snow blower working. We have food for humans and Dogs, heat (so far) shovels, and each other! It could be worse! |
glad to know you are ok. My daughter always calls me every night. Last night she told me the law firm that she works at let them go early (she lives in the city) and it took an over hour to get home (usually about 15 mins-- public transportation) She stocked up on junk food - flash lights and books to read. She said her office is closed today. I think she hopes to work on her classes online so I hope there is not any power outages. She "cut" her teeth on hurricanes... but this is scaring her because it is so new to her. She said she had to cancell her date last night because if she went out she would never get home... not a good thing |
Hope ya'll stay safe.....and warm!! |
We got quite a bit too...probably about a foot to 18" total but we're supposed to get more snow today...just a couple inches though. My husband just went out and used the snow blower for our driveway and patio and he did the neighbors too. I dug out the truck and took a few pictures. Now I'm making a good breakfast and then we're going out for a drive to take more pictures. Sure wishing our Florida house was ready! |
3 Attachment(s) We have a 5' foot drift blocking us in! Here's some photos from our street. I can't wait to move to Texas! 27 years of this is enough :) |

Steve, so I am assuming Marge isn't making it to Texas today?? Last time I was in Chicago it was like this. That was like in 1997/8?? anyway.. I was living in Indiana and working in downtown Chicago in the Randall Bldg. I was at the train station in Indiana (lived in Indiana, worked in Chicago) at 4:30 for a 30 minute trip to work. It took 5 hours to get there after being stuck on the tracks several times. Then when I got to work, no one was there. I called my boss and he said go home. Of course the trains were no longer running. It took until 6pm that night before they could get one train out to go to Indiana. Then it ended up stuck on the tracks as well. I did not make it back to Indiana until 12:30am!! Then after scraping the snow off my car to drive home,.. found out it wasn't MY car after all. Had to scrape until I found the right car. Then I found out I couldn't get on the freeway cause there were tons of abandoned cars on it.. had to BACK down an icy on ramp and try to find my way home. Even tho I was only 2 miles from the train station there were so many blocked off roads it took me another 2 hours getting home! THAT is when I decided that I was coming back to California!! do NOT miss that at all! |
OMG, I can't even imagine dealing with that. Stay safe and warm all of you folks in the snow. I'm thinking of you all with warm thoughts :D and looking for a high of around 83 here in Maui today (sorry.... just couldn't resist). |

Marge is home. Her trip was canceled yesterday. O'Hare is a Ghost town. She has another trip planned next Tues and Wed, and then will be here for Maxine's Surgery on Thrusday. Really bad here. Still quite windy up by us in the NW burbs. I know what you mean about getting delayed due to the weather here. I had some 6 hour drives home several times. No fun at all. Wish I was out in the Phoenix area...... |

Stay safe, snuggle close, and keep warm! and yes, it could be worse. :) |

Lakeshore Drive is a mess. There was a bus accident early on in the storm and then a couple more accidents. They are talking about it on the new right now and saying that 1,500 cars were stranded overnight. |
There recovery plan for the stranded motorists on Lake Shore Drive, some stranded for 12 hours was a complete Boondoofle, and someone in daley's Administration should be fired. A bus that was abonded on Belmost and LSD caused part of the mess, and then segveral accidents. They finally came and did my streeet, after many hours of marge and I shoveling as my Snow Blower sits in the garage waiting on parts and a repairman. Now get readu for some cold! Glad we have no place to be. |

They are still pulling cars of Lake Shore Drive tonight. I travel that stretch at least once or maybe twice a week. I'm so glad I wasn't down there yesterday. I cannot imagine having to shovel! There is way too much snow to have your snowblower go out. :( |
