Help With Photoshop Programs?? I am wanting to purchase a photoshop program which will allow me to edit photos, cut, copy, paste pictures into other back grounds. Make moving avatars like some of you all have. Actually I want to have something that will allow me to do all the tricks. I have looked at Adobe, but there are so many versions out there. Which one do I need? Any advice will help. |
Oh, this is exactly what I'm wanting also. Hope, someone can tell us what we needed to create all the cool pics. Good thread....thanks! |
I don't use Photoshop, so I don't know the different programs. I've talked with others who've said that not all of them come with an animation shop, and you need this in order to make the moving avatars. Some programs are more for photo editing and scrapbooking, but you need something that can work with "gif" files if you want to group your pictures together into one file. Generally something that comes with an animation shop, also comes with lots of editing capabilities. I use Paint Shop Pro 9, Jasco sold the company to Corel, and they sell various programs, but again if you want to make animated gifs make sure yours comes with an animation program. |
I do a lot of scrapbooking and for that I like to use Creative Memories. I also have Photoshop Elements 7 which I think I would like a lot more if I would just sit down and make myself use it. Then there are several free programs I use if I want something that the CM program does not do. I have not played a lot with the gif files, but I sure do enjoy what everyone else does with them. |
I have Photoshop Elements 8 and think it is a great deal for the money. It doesn't have nearly the power of the CS version (like Photoshop CS5), but for your purposes, Photoshop Elements would probably be the best bet. It's a pretty good little home program. |
I have down loaded a trial version of Adobe CS5 Design Preium, but I am lost when I try to use it. I dont know if it has what I want to do or not. I like the adavtars that Nancy 1999 has, I also want to convert pict to black & white with at least 600 dpi and a bitmap image. Not really for sure what that means. This is for work and home use. I need to do mass advertising for our new Food City store location in hopes of attracting more businesses there, and also photo shop cute little pictures of my babies for various projects. I have Creative Memories already that doesnt really help me. |
Photoshop CS has a really steep learning curve. It's made for serious photo editing. You might do better with Photoshop Elements which is for the everyday user, plus it's a whole lot cheaper. There are tons of videos on youtube showing people how to use the different versions. The biggest difference between the two is that Elements doesn't offer some of the automated steps that CS does. But there is a work around for just about everything to get most of the same effects. You can even create animated gifs with Elements. Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 * Create an animated GIF If you want just a free photo editing program to play with, try looking at Picassa. |
I use photoscape. It seems fairly simple which is good because I am like. Duh, what did they say? Anyway, it was free. And I got the tip from YT users. Downloaded from the web.. It has program where you can use moving avators or general animation. I think Nancy has thread regarding this and what you need. |

I have Photoshop CS4 from Adobe. I am working on my masters in educational technology and I will tell you that it is a hard program to learn. If you decide to go with Photoshop prepare to pay a lot and watch a lot of tutorials. It is doable but don't plan on being able to do it as soon as you open up a new document. GIMP is a free version that is sorta similar to Photoshop. You may try it first then decide if you want Photoshop or not. Here is a link to download if you are interested. Good luck! I've used Paint Shop Pro (like Nancy has used) too and it's way more friendly than Photoshop. You may not get the options that P-shop has, but it's likely that you won't even know you're missing them, ya know? Bc P-shop has soooooooooooo many options, it can be overwhelming. If anyone is firm on using p-shop, I'd really recommend loading some actions...it helps so much with streamlining. |

I did want to mention that even though Jasc sold the rights to Corel, they allowed them to keep making PaintShopPro 9 with animation shop and can legally sell that. You can still buy it for various operating systems, but you have to be careful, as one size does not fit all systems. You'll find really good prices for a new program as low as $19.00. You can also download a trial version on various sites and see if it's your cup of tea. Whatever you decide, I really recommend the free trial, it's a bummer to buy a program and hate it! |

Which ever program you chose, I can't reiterate enough "youtube, youtube, youtube!" There are so many things that would make me sit in front of my computer for hours trying to figure out (like clipping masks) that just would not "click" by reading the directions. Yet once I saw a video of someone actually doing it, I could get it to work without a hitch. I'm now to the point where I can even make my own templates for my scrapbooking thanks to youtube. |
