A netbook will have a lot less RAM and a lot less hard drive space, which means that if you will be using it to store a lot or use a lot of programs, it will be slower. It also doesn't have a CD drive, which can be remedied by purchasing an external one, but then that means you'd have one more thing to carry around. If it were me, personally, I would just buy a small 14 inch laptop. I just bought a Dell Inspiron 14R from Best Buy for a decent price. It's 14 inches and does everything I need to. I play games on facebook as well as play the Sims 3. I have all the expansions for Sims and it still runs great. I use it mostly for school and personal use. I've had it for 4 months and have had no issues. I might in the future buy a netbook so it is a little more portable, but I personally preferred to have a full size laptop with a decent amount of RAM and hard drive space. |
I have a netbook (Dell mini9) that a friend is using right now for email and web surfing while she's traveling back and forth to TX every couple of weeks. It travel's better than her laptop. I used it for over a year as my main computer. The grandkids have used it. The only website we had a problem with was Webkinz, the screen was not big enough for the site once you signed on. We have a Dell Studio 19 desktop that DH uses. He plays spider solitaire, reads the news and is beginning to check out his facebook page. I have a Dell XPS 15" laptop that is too heavy, but I haul it around in a backpack anyway. My neighbor has a 17" Toshiba that is alot lighter. The laptop is my main computer now. I'll use it for a couple of years and pass it on to the grand's. My sister bought her kids iPad for Christmas. It was great. I loved the sound quality from it. Easy to navigate. I only used it for a little while. |
My experience with netbooks is that they have limited screen resolution options (sometimes only 640 x 480) which makes web browsing a pain My laptop is a Dell, and I only get the ones that are 3-4 lbs. Perfect for travel. Just got an IPad and absolutely love it. Browsing is super easy and the key board is actually almost as big as my laptop key board when held in landscape, I can type normally. |
