Sony reader anyone?
 

I am getting a Sony reader for Christmas. Do you like it? Do you like it better than actual books? Why? Anything else you'd like to share. Thanks!:)

I have a sony e-reader touch edition that I got last year. I love it. I am currently in school, and one of the best options is that I can take notes, highlight, and bookmark pdf articles that I need for my research, come back to my computer and save them as a word document. It has made reading and taking notes amazing. Although I have a music and picture function (only b&w) I have not really had any use for those.

I have bought the sony e-reader this Christmas for my father. I have gotten him the smaller and simpler version (last year's model) without the touch screen, and loaded it with e-books from Kobo. The biggest advantage is to carrying more than one book without taking more space than you need. It's easy to pop into your purse or bag, and read from where you left off, it remembers!

You can also download free books from most public libraries, and when your "borrowing" time is over, they will just "disappear or become unopenable"...saves late fees.

As opposed to some of the other e-readers (my friend and I did a bit of research on this), the sony allows me to download from a number of places, epub, pdf, doc and txt files. Making school work easier for me, and making it easier to get public domain books/articles/newsletter etc for my dad. And you are not locked into one country or "bookstore" like some others.

As you might tell...I do indeed love it and recommend it for any avid readers...the only depressing thing about the e-reader is that I miss the wondering of used bookstores, the smell and feel of paper...but I can still read that way as well. This just provides other options.

I have a Kindle and love it. I am so sure you will love your reader! I really do appreciate being able to get a book whenever I want it, rather than having to go to a store to buy one. I also love that I don't have to carry a book!

I have the Sony Reader Daily Edition. I LOVE it.
I actually prefer it to reading actual books.
In fact I recently downloaded the Debbie Macomber Cedar Cove series. I used to belong to the Harlequin monthly book club and I had the second series in paperback. I didn't want to read them until I had read the first books in the series, so I downloaded them. Then when I finished those I downloaded the second set, forgetting that I had them in paperback!

I never lose my place, don't have to worry about bookmarks. If a word pops up in a book I don't understand I can just highlight it and bring up the dictionary definition.
I can keep text memos in it too. I wonder how I managed before I got it:)

I have also been able to download a lot of the old classics that are in the public domain so they have been free to download.

I also like the fact that it supports multiple formats.

It is more expensive than the Kindle, but it is worth the extra expense.

I think I like actual books. I like to turn pages and "dog ear" them to mark my place. I'm not sure, but wouldn't the screen light be bad for your eyes after a while?

I have had a Kindle for a couple of years and now I use my iPad for reading books. I LOVE LOVE LOVE them! Right now there are several hundred books on each so I don't ever need to worry about not having something to read. Now I spend a little less than I used to for books, but read far more because of all the free books Amazon offers. Plus I really like the classics and books written in the 1920s and earlier - many of which are available FREE at Project Gutenberg - free ebooks online download for iPad, Kindle, Nook, Android, iPhone, iPod Touch, Sony Reader . I even get a daily RSS feed from Gutenberg listing all the "new" books made available for download.

I thought I would miss the feel of an actual book, but I don't. I never lose my place, when I run into a new word, I can look it up instantly at the touch of a button, and my overflowing bookshelves are no longer a problem.

Ok, I just looked at the sony website. I changed my mind...I think I want one now:)

I'm getting the Barnes and Nobles "Nook" for Christmas. Everyone that has it loves it.

We bought the Nook for my daughter for her birthday. She loves it because she always has her nose in a book. I liked the fact that you can put microsd cards in them to expand the memory, or to keep all of a certain genre together.

Which ever one you get, there are lots of great sites for downloading free e-books:

My husband has been trying to talk me in to getting one, but I'm old school. I like the feel of the paper in hands. Plus, the tub is my favorite place to read... so that rules out anything electronic for me.
