Snow day! I snowed yesterday and today.(about 2-3 inches, a lot here) Hubby works at the university and they opened 2 hrs late. He went out to take dtr to work (she works for a call center for adt and has no days off she can take). The had closed the country road we live off of last night. Last yr we had a snow storm where no one could get down it till some wonderful people stayed out there guiding people where to put their car tires so they would not slide off the road. Curves and hills. I left work that day (it takes me 15 minutes to get to work) and I left at 430 and after having to set at subway for traffic to clear some I got home about 8 pm. Not doing it this yr. Hubby went out at 830 4 wheeling around the cones. He came back sd he was calling in. I called in also though I did not have to be there till 2. Worried about trying to get home at 8. A lot of slush now but after sun goes down, it will be bad. I hope no one will fuss tomorrow. I have 4 wheel drive, but not going to chance wrecking my jeep or hubby's blazer. Long way to ask: when it snows, do you go to work or look for excuse to call in? |
I go to work! But I'm from the Canadian prairies so we're used to it here. We live 20 minutes out of the city and so far this year haven't had anything too bad. We have had a few blizzards with bad roads in the city (with all the stop and start traffic, it gets icy) but the highways are usually pretty good. I have refused to work overtime through the winter months though, because there is so much traffic at 5:00, and not so much later on. If I were to slide off the road, I want there to be traffic so someone will notice and help. It's dark at 5:00 too and deer like crazy crossing the highway! So I'm just trying to be safe. My boyfriend and I both just have small cars, but my brother did just give us the old '91 4x4 Explorer in case there's too much snow to get around with our cars. A few years ago there was a huge blizzard that shut down the whole city! I got stuck twice right out of the work parking lot (we got sent home after an hour). Visibility was so poor I couldn't see beyond the front of my car! I got lost downtown because I couldn't see buildings or signs, and it was difficult to see traffic lights in intersections. That was the scariest drive I've ever had. Many people took refuge and stayed the night wherever they were, in stores or restaurants or schools. |
I got aggravated with last year's storm. I called into work at 1:00 asked the 2nd in charge if we were open. she sd yes, come on in. I went in slipping in my 4 wheel drive blazer. I was thre 1/2 hr and they decided to close. I was not making that mistake again. a coworker who has worked there longer sd it is unusal for him to close. For pete's sake, we take calls from people about thier er physician bills. They could wait a day to cuss me and argue about thier bill. |
We had snow yesterday and today but now the roads are clear. Im a courier and Its My Husbands company so I dont drive on snow days because Im paranoid to. My Husband drives for me. But my gripe today is all the schools had 2 hr delays or closed today but ours didnt. My Husband took her toschool and got caught behind a bunch of cars like alot of other parents did. Anyway she was 2 minutes late and they counted her tardy which messes up her perfect attendance. Then My Daughter came home later on in the day and said only 7 kids showed up for school in her class. |
