Black Friday Shopping Anyone??? A friend and I sorta have a tradition we started a few years ago. Redbulls and jerkey for breakfast on our way to the crazy early sales.:sfunslap: End the day with Margaritas:excited2: Anyone else take part in this insane event? |
That sounds like fun!! Last time I did Black Friday it was the during furby craze and I vowed never again to get my butt out of bed in the middle of the night to go stand in lines waiting for stores to open . . .:p |
After having worked retail for many years, I vowed never to shop on Black Friday unless my or husband's life depended on it! I had a very unpleasant experience many years ago when I worked a kiosk at Sears. My best friend asked me to buy a couple Cabbage Patch babies for her (she worked there as well) when I went on break. I obliged, but when I grabbed two blond girl dolls, a fellow customer actually grabbed one out of my arms, stating that I "didn't deserve TWO BLONDS!". Needless to say, after standing and waiting for almost an hour for them to go on sale, I GOT MY DOLLS! Both of them. Almost sent her to the hospital, I almost got fired, so much for Christmas spirit! At least my friend's grandaughters got their babies, and seeing their happy faces made it worth it for me! :D |
That is AWESOME!! My sister participates, and I did go with her the past 2-years. She called me a couple of days ago to tell me that the Kohls around us are opening at 3am.... and the Target 4am. She said she was going to be there.... I told her I would have to Think about that one!! I head that Toys R Us are opening at 10pm Thanksgiving everning. |
Some of the stores in the Mall here are opening at midnight. My oldest son works in retail and is scheduled for Black Friday. He is not looking forward to it. My youngest works in a supermarket so I don't think he will be as busy. Personally, I'm not going shopping that day!! Those of you who will be shopping, enjoy yourselves and I hope you get alot of good buys!! :) |
I have opted out of the BF sales craziness for many years now. When I was younger I found it almost fun at times. But the older I got, the more annoyed I would get when people got rude and they ALWAYS get rude on BF. I might make an exception to go to one of the smaller shops here in my own very small town. But I won't go near the malls in the larger town next to us. I try to do my shopping through the week and before the mall really takes on that frenzied Christmas shopping speed. I use the internet for as much as possible. I actually got some done today online. I made sure NOT to use of Amazon though. |
I live for Black Friday shopping seriously. You know that lady in the Target commercial who is cross training for Black Friday...that COULD be me. I like the excitement of getting a deal, heck I even shop for other people. I think it may be my version of hunting and gathering. |

I agree~ hunting and gathering...for fun:D |
That's so funny. The last time I got up before dawn was also during the Furby craze -- I was the first one in the store that advertised them and they didn't have a single one for sale -- the employees took them all before the store opened! But I think it's a dandy idea to end the day with margaritas, anyway! |
I've never been, and don't really get it. I mean do the stores have specials that people actually want or do you want the stuff because it's a a special price? Are you buying for other people or are you buying for yourselves? Do you know what specials the stores are having before you go to them, or do they anounce them at the store? What are some of the deals people have gotten? Hell, I'm tired from just thinking about it, but I do love a good deal . . . |

Most stores do send out sale papers or have online what they will have. I buy for myself occasionally and others. Sometimes you can get special items that are not out any other time. My friend has gotten toy sets like this for her kids in the past. Honestly, I go for the sake of tradition with my friend and we end the day with Margarita's.:excited2: Year before last, however, I found an envelope of money while standing in line on our way into Target. I also found its owner and gave it back. |

Its just a tradition... For the past 6 years, I drive 2 hours (one way) just to go home and do it with the family! |

My sister and I were both talking about this yesterday. We have been going for years and last year we took out teenage daughters with us. It's not about the sales so much as we just love to shop. I love the circuses that go on in the stores. |

I love the excitement also, it is a great girls bonding experience and it is just plain FUN!!! I have gotten some great deals on Black Friday, laptop computers (buying for others) TV, GPS systems you name it I have probably bought it on Black Friday. Someone asked about the sales and how we know, I use a site called www.BFADs.net they have the listings of all the sale items and the door busters (door busters are for us early birds who stay up all night and there first thing in the am, usually a great deal and go fast). Thanksgiving evening is spent getting prepped for the shopping and drinking a lot of coffee. Depends on where I am going either I will nap or stay up all night camping out inside of Walmart now that they are open 24/7. I have never camped out at Best Buy, I am just not that into Best Buy (honestly dislike the store even on a normal day). We really should start a thread and compare our lists. |

I use bfads.net, too! :) Only one year I camped out by Best Buy. It was snowing and freezing and I did it to get laptops for my sister and sister n law... never again! lol If they want something where you have to camp out, you gotta do it! They didn't even go... they were inside WalMart at the time. bleh! lol |

Anyone watch SNL last night? It was hilarious!!!! I was crying I was laughing so hard at the Mega Mart 12 Minute Madness. Some of their advertising said: -What's the only thing that can get between you and a great deal? Boxes, so every customer will be given a free boxcutter at the door. - At exactly 4 a.m. the doors will be flung open and the stampede of people will be let in right they have finished mopping and waxing the florrs. -Where you can find the better deals? In the back of the store down jampacked aisles! There were others and it was hilarious!! |
I found it, I didn't thinkI would b/c it was just on last night. :confused:I have no idea why it is backwards but you get the idea!:D;) |

oh gosh I LOVE it! I am going out this year! 3am Kohls, and it goes on from there. I really want to hit up Best Buy at 5am (maybe 4am) for a Nook e-reader for $100 and Walmart at 5am (maybe 4am, we have to split up) for a TomTom GPS for $59. I am really looking forward to this though, should be a great time! :) Have a blast and I hope you find some amazing sales!!! |
I LOVE it, the game plans have already been formed. :) so much fun! I expect reports back on all the deals and battle stories. |
I totally love the madness! My mom and I go every year, so its tradition for us. We will be at Walmart at midnight. I HAVE to buy the Cricut Expression for $185 with 2 cartridges (awesome deal- normally $399 just for the machine and $40-50 per cartridge). And I want the sewing machine they are selling for $50. I am so excited!! |
I've worked the last 3 black fridays or so, and I'll be working this one too. :) A couple years back I got up at 3am and camped out at Kmart around 4am until they opened. It was SO COLD, but I got the last of the 21 Wii's they had! :D Met two awesome ladies who reached up above the crowd (since I'm super short) and got me my ticket saying I could have one of the Wii's. They were fabulous. I work at Petsmart now and even though we're opening at 7AM, I don't think the rush will be huge. My coworker is going to set aside some Yorkie slippers and a bed for me. :) |
