I could kick myself..... 2 months ago I took in a female cat with her 4 week old kittens that had been abandoned in an apartment .My hubby had been away at the time and i was so sure i could foster them ,find them all great homes before the hubby really had to deal with it (he is severely allergic)well 8 weeks later and i still have momma and 1 of her kittens ,i have asked the rescues in my area for help but they are all overwhelmed as it is.Hubby has agreed that we can keep them but we need to get them spayed and shots and will have to be outdoor cats that we can take inside when the weather is not so great. Sometimes I get angry at myself for just wanting to help at the moment and not thinking through to the what ifs:( thanks for letting me vent |
I feel for you but you did a good thing. We had a female cat hanging out in our backyard and after a couple of days we felt bad for her and feed her so she stuck around. Any way she ended up being pregnant and had 4 kittens. I couldnt find homes for any of them so now I have 6 cats. |

Thank you for saving them. Hope you can find mom and her kit forever home soon. five yrs ago, when I went back home(korea) I found a abandoned yorkie wondering in subway station. I was scared for poor boy, so I brought him home. He looked very sick and my mother got so angry at me for bringing sick animal in home(supposedly it is bad luck or something over there:confused:) I took him to the vet next day, and found out that he had some kind of tumor. I decided to do surgery on him to get rid of his tumor which cost me $4500. Surgery only extended 2yrs of his life, cause he was old. However, I'm glad that I was able to help him get 2more yrs of his life. |
both of you did good things.....whether we like it or not, animals need us and we are here to protect and care for them. |
Years ago (back in the 70's) and we were stationed at K.I Sawyer AFB in Michigan. One of the officers was going on a 6 month TDY and his wife was going to visit her parents while they were gone. They asked if we would take care of their two cats while they were gone. We agreed. Wasn't until we got them we discovered I was allergic to cats! It was a long long 6 months. So, I understand where your husband is coming from:). Funny I didn't know I was allergic to cats, my grandmother had a couple of cats and I don't remember being allergic to them. |
My friend is caring for a feral cat and her babies at her house. She got a dog house and insulated it and put a bed in it and the cats stay in there. She feeds them are cares for them but they won't come in. She is having them spayed too. At least there are good hearted people in the world who love and care about the animals. To all of you who take in and care for these poor animals Bravo!!!!! |
It sounds like there are a lot of us that have a hard time looking the other way when an animal is in need ...I just love hearing everbodys stories :) |
I foster and re-socialize feral cats my last foster was pregnant (sadly due to unknown reasons i lost mom and all 5 kittens) It takes a lot to deal with cats every time i bring in a new foster i have to face the possibility that i will not find them a home.that's why i have 2 cats after my loss i have put a hold on fostering it takes a lot out of a person and with cats is very rarely rewarding (in a progress kind of way) Thank you for taking them in |
2 Attachment(s) I took in two cats, got them neutered and microchipped. One escaped & never returned. Another one was missing for four months & thanks to the information on her collar, she was reunited with me & she no longer escapes whenever the door is open. I have my gorgeous cat, Zia for ten years. She's pretty laid back cat & enjoys the attention from people. When I first took her in, I tried to find her a good home but it was difficult than I thought to find her a forever home. I am not a cat person but I was willing to give Zia a good home. Love her to pieces! :D Hope you'll find great homes for them! |
