I stopped it by saying..."I will be happy to take your reading material if you take mine"....I have several plastic bags in a closet with phamplets from the foyer of our last 2 churches... Everyone agrees to disagree and go our separate ways... |
My sign reads No Soliciting no religious groups If you haven't been invited You aren't welcome So go annoy someone else. Pizza delivery guy cracked right up and one person stole the sign somewhere and I put up another one. sEems to work though. If particularly persistent you could disconnect the wire on your doorbell on sundays. They won't know it isn't ringing. One grooming client I have has a daycare. Her sign says, Babies sleeping, you ring the bell and wake them you get to come in and rock them back to sleep. |

Anyway, I consider myself spiritual, not religious and in the matter of ""what would Jesus do?"", ""what would Muhommad do?"", ""what would Buddha do"", etc... I don't know..... What I am pretty sure of is that none of the above would be going door to door knocking, looking for disciples. They all had people come to them. |

They either hound you to death or can't be found anywhere. |

We don't answer our door if we're not expecting anyone. Not only bc I can't stand being solicited...but also bc I don't support pushing religion on others, no matter the reason. (and, this should go without saying...but I'll say it anywho...I mean no offense by that statement, but it is how I feel/believe) |

When I saw that you were the last poster, I thought you closed the thread.:) |
So funny that today I find this thread. I come home for lunch and as I was leaving to go back to work I noticed a pamphlet on the front porch. I was in a hurry, so I didn't pick it up until I came home this evening. Yep! It was from that group that always comes by here - not as often these days as they did years ago. It reminded me that they used to come on Saturday mornings - early - and when I was much younger I liked to sleep late and on more than one occasion they woke me up! Anyway, on with my story...they used to come by on Saturday mornings quite frequently to leave pamphlets and solicit money. Then we started noticing they would go to a restaurant that we used to frequent on Saturday evenings. I had to wonder if they were dining on their donations!:D |
I am still recovering from surgery and so I don't answer the door unless it is someone we know. Someone opened our storm door to use the door knocker and jiggle the door. Almost give me a heart attack. Ever since then we even keep the storm door locked. They never tried the door bell. Sometimes I wish ours was disconnected. I think that is going alittle far to open your glass door and try to see if the door was locked. Scary!!!!! |
Put up a sign on the door that says do not disturb..in isolation due to illness :D |
Honestly.....I tell them the truth that I am Hindu, and that.........that usually leaves them speechless so I can close the door. |
I'm Mormon, so I of course have no problems with the missionaries coming to the door haha. Though from what I understand the church's missionaries are pretty good at taking no for an answer. We had the Jehovah's Witnesses come to our door a few times. I thought they were polite. They offered me their pamphlet and I told them i'd be happy to take it if they would take a copy of the Book of Mormon (I really would have taken their paper, too!). They haven't been back since then. To me, the most obnoxious was after a huge storm a tree took out our roof, and the next mroning DOZENS of business folks stopped by to offer us their wonderful deals to fix our roof. |

:D My fave always been the one an old retired army buddy put out at the end of his looong driveway,in little bitty letters: "If you can read this-I'VE ALREADY GOT A BEAD ON YOU!" He swears it works...for everyone! |

Try putting up a sign saying "Don't ring doorbell, it opens trap door" in the very least you should make them think twice before ringing it. Or "Don't ring doorbell, baby asleep" they don't need to know it's a fur-baby :D |
I don't want a general sign. Yes, UPS, USPS, and FED EX, friends can ring my bell...I don't want to discourage evryone, only the _________ _____________!!!!! I am making a small sign today, and putting it on our brick steps; they'll have to see it when they start to walk up, and no one else will notice it from the street. I couldn't find a doormat. |

*Our FedEx guy is great. UPS is horrible. :thumbdown USPS :banned: As for the Church solicitors~I really like the robber idea. But I haven't had solicitors here in a very long time. Now that I have opened my BIG MOUTH I'm sure my doorbell will be ringing! |

And 4 letter words, I could have not said it better myself:cool: We have no doorbell, but when one rings on TV my little Winnie goes off! It's kinda cute! |
I think they finally got the message at our house . . .we don't even let any of them actually make it to the door. When we see em coming (and you can always see them walking around the neighborhood and know you will get bothered) we fling open the door right as they start their approach up the driveway and tell them to turn around and keep walkin' cause we ain't interested in what they are sellin' . . .LOL |
You know something I have always wondered is if they really get very many people to convert that way, I can't imagine, but I've always been curious! |

I have watched all three of them drop of packages, and leave. No attempt to ring the door bell. I have my signs ready for Sunday. I will wait and watch. If they ignore the signs, then we will have to have another talk. |

I don't have the issues with USPS that I do with UPS and FedEx. |

The Mormon church has been one of the fastest growing religions in the world for decades, due primarily to this method. Personally, I don't agree with most of the Mormon doctrines, however, if a person is searching for a religion that will meet their needs for a caring, family oriented..etc church, you cannot go wrong. Their values cannot be faulted and their approach on the door knocking is pretty good. They are polite, if you ask them to leave they will. If they see a do not disturb sign, they wont. My frustration is with the other religions and solicitors that are more aggressive and by manner turn people off. I don't think the Witnesses do themselves much good. |
I always answer the door and I politely tell them I am Roman Catholic, but I will take their pamphlet. They politely smile and leave, never had a problem. Maybe cause it's new York :D I don't know. |
