Kitchen backsplash...
 

Wow, so many choices!! We have black granite and stainless steel in our kitchen, with hardwood floors. We're planning to have a backsplash put up in a couple of weeks, and was wondering if you have any info to share about yours.

You could fo with Black Granite for the back splash to match the counter top, or a nice tile with a Picture of the Yorkie under the Vent and over the stove. Lighting under the Cabinets is also nice. I wanted the granite for the backsplace, Marge wanted a designer tile. She won. All That is important to me is food on the table!

I am obsessed with subway tile, and have been for quite a while...this design obsession just won't leave me! I like it again and again.

Not sure if subway tile would go with your styling, but if it would....oh how fabulous!

I love this tile I saw at a Hospital it is clear tile. They also had silver leaf tile that was neat. I hav e black ceramic tile

Glass tiles! Lots of color choices, really pretty!

I have a black and white checkerboard floor with white cabinets and stainless counters and appliances. I put up a black marble with white veins for my backsplash and love it. The little bit of white saves me from having to polish every time someone uses the sink and leaves water spots on the tile.

I'm the LAST person that can help you make a choice...i spent two days staring at river rock to lay down at the pool.

We are getting ready to do our kitchen, we are using stainless steel tiles for our backsplash.

I have black granite with wood, too. We chose to go with a neutral tan 4x4 tile as the back splash because of the light maple cabinets. I wanted something that wouldn't limit me with my choice of paint colors and something that wasn't too overwhelming because I wanted the counter tops to be the focal point.

Glass tiles!!!! I do like the subway tiling too if that's your style...I just love design!!!

Have you seen subway glass tile? Its gorgeous! I watch a lot of HGTV; there is an episode of Selling New York that showed glass subway tile (in a bathroom though) and if I ever redo my kitchen or bath, that would be my way to go!

In the old days, we would glue cardboard to the wall, and then spray paint it, and draw grout lines across it with a different color.

They had cardboard in the caveman days?:D

I was looking at clear glass tiles, and like them. I want to stay away from patterns, in case we want to sell some day. The subway glass tiles are really pretty!
Did you have a contractor install yours, or go thru Home Depot or Lowe's?
I hope it can be installed in one day.

I think the glass and stainless are my favorite...so far.;)

The stainless steel ones are pretty, but I wonder if they would be a bear to keep clean. I have a ss fridge and it shows EVERY little spot.

I was thinking the same thing. I hope someone posts who has one. I kind of think my hubby would prefer clear glass.

Cork
Although they can be very convenient, cork backsplashes are not for everyone. They're not easy to clean, and they do eventually wear out. However, if you don't mind replacing the cork backsplash every few years, they can be an excellent choice.

Natural Stone

Another very popular option for a backsplash in country or rural themed kitchens is soft metals. Copper and tin are popular soft metals that are used in the backslashes in many country styled kitchens. They are fairly easy to clean, very attractive and very resistant to wear and tear.

However, tin backsplashes are prone to corrosion and rust, while copper often needs to be cleaned and polished to avoid tarnish and mildew. Also, soft metals for backsplashes are not cheap, and can add greatly to the cost of a kitchen remodel.

Stainless Steel
Stainless steel backsplash are great for alter modern kitchens. They are also an excellent choice if you want to make a small kitchen appear larger. They are reflective, shiny and easy to clean and polish. They are also fire resistant and perhaps some of the most durable types of backsplashes available. However, like most other good things for the kitchen, stainless steel backsplashes are very expensive.

My daughter got tired of the tiles in her kitchen so she went to Home Depot and purchased fake tin ceiling tiles and put those up. It looks reaaaalllly good.


I have my dream kitchen visions that are going in my new house, but I do love love love subway tiles and glass tiles.

What I wanna know is if and when stainless and white appliances are gonna come out :D I currently have stainless and black and I'm sick of the black already. White looks really clean and I also like the stainless and think those two would compliment each other well on appliances.

I used a mixed 2 x2 slate and added some black glass 2x2 randomly mixed in. I love it.

My sister couldnt find a backspash she liked that would with her kitchen. She found some tiles she liked, broke them into pieces and randomly placed on the wall....and used a colored grout. Looks beautiful and was relatively inexpensive.

I think you and me may have a similar design aesthetic...? If I remember, on other design threads, we were liking the same things too. Do you go to a lot of design sites/blogs? OMG, I have soooooooo many sites that I peruse regularly and just drool over. SO inspiring to me creatively!

Do you mean 'clear' glass? Or, are you meaning the glass block?

I have subway tile over my soapstone counters. Love it!
