Need laundry help! Okay so incidentally I got an email saying that I hadn't posted anything in a while and that YT wants me back. Well, I'm always here.... just haven't had much to say lately or nearly the amount of time I used to just to browse. But then something happened last night and the first group I thought of to help was YT! I washed a load of "darks" last night that happened to include a new pair (washed maybe once already) of black denim capris. Well, this yellow shirt and pink cami that were washed also (which have never had problems in the "dark" load before) now have dark blue/black streaks on them. Ugh! First thing I did was soak them in the sink with OxyClean but I don't think that did much good. I laid them out to dry thinking maybe I could find another solution. Our internet at home has been down for a couple days due to storms so I didn't get to ask last night. My husband ran by WalMart to look at the RIT products. There was one that says its a "color reducer" I think. Says it gets color out before you dye the garment. I don't think that's the right thing to use in this case though. Anybody have any suggestions?? |
Dye both of them Black. |
try something like shout before you resort to dyeing the clothes because they will never be the same color after you are done |

Internet is finally back up! Well, I soaked overnight. Then I sprayed with Oxy Clean spray and let sit for a long time, then washed in hot water and Oxy Clean powder (it's okay if these two things shrink a little - otherwise I don't use hot). A lot of it came out. Then I sprayed with Shout and let it sit and washed again in hot. There are a few stubborn light spots in the yellow shirt but the pink one is perfect. I've Oxy sprayed the yellow one again and will let it sit until doing another load of lights. It's better though.... not sure it will ever come completely out but I learned my lesson with that darn pair of black pants! Thanks for the suggestions. |

I recently shrunk a few of my favorite cardigans washing them for the first time.:( |
Ive used the rit reducer many times and it only took out the stained dye it didnt affect the garment color. If your uncomfortble with it put it in woth it and only leave it in 5 minutes |
