Roach problem cured! I know this is gross but I had a big roach problem recently. Apparently lots of apts. here were having this also and my neighbors did too. Well it went from seeing a few to them multiplying over night..there were a bunch. I was sooo grossed out! Usually they hung out in the kitchen cause I read they go where ever water is(they cant survive w/o water). Anyway I was disgusted so I looked online to find a solution. I found that Boric acid does the trick..mixed with sugar. I tried that and also baking soda with sugar, while it killed some there were still some lingering. Then someone told me she got rid of roaches by mixing boiled egg yolk with boric acid and water. She would make little balls and put them in corners, cabinets. So I did this and omg did it work! I have no roaches whatsoever anymore and they wiped out all in like 2 weeks. So if you have roaches..don't use those sprays, whatever..do this. I promise it works. They eat the balls because of the boiled egg yolk and the boric acid is poison for them. I heard they get constipated or something and that causes them to die. Anyway thought I'd share. :) |
Thats cool! I lived with my Dad once in a townhouse complex. We were clean and never saw roaches... but we had a really weird neighbor move in and he started banging around his place like construction sounds and next thing we knew, we had roaches. UUGHHH!!! yuck, yuck, yuck! We moved out pretty soon after that so I had to wash everything that was in the condo with Dawn dish washing soap. I didn't have roaches when I moved so I guess that took care of the problem too but that was to kill any eggs they may have left behind! I'm glad your roaches are gone though! It is pretty gross to think about! I always try to remember they are just a beetle with a bad rep! LOL |
Thanks for the Tip!! I am in DC and we have had a lot of new people move in this past month. I hadn't seen any in about 8 months or so but have seen about 5 in the past couple of weeks. I am thinking they are only going to multiply. I will try this, for sure!! |
Yay!! DEATH TO THE ROACHES! :D |

I would hate to suggest it to them and then there be a problem. Thanks;) |
Im glad you posted this, I'll have to try it. We've actually had a problem too ever since all the rain early summer. They say they're waterbugs but Ive always known them as roaches. We've tried several sprays and baits and Im very picky about keeping my kitchen clean so its making me crazy that we cant get rid of them! I thought I did for awhile but now and then I'll see just 1 roach and I hear where there is one there is always more so its haunting seeing any at all! Oh and my 2 year old is TERRIFIED OF THEM! She saw one once and actually cried in her sleep "the bug is going to get you" how sad is that? Anyways thanks for posting. PS- Is it animal safe though? lord knows my Boxer would try to eat it. I mean I would put it under the cabinets out of range but she's crazy and Im sure would somehow manage. She ate playdoh last week! |
It's not safe for humans to ingest, so I would guess it's toxic to our pets, too. BORIC ACID Inhalation: Causes irritation to the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract. May be absorbed from the mucous membranes, and depending on the amount of exposure could result in the development of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, drowsiness, rash, headache, fall in body temperature, low blood pressure, renal injury, cyanosis, coma, and death. Ingestion: Symptoms parallel absorption via inhalation. Adult fatal dose reported at 5 to > 30 grams. |
You're welcome! Nooo it is not safe for pets. I just put it up high where my pets can't get to it, in cabinets and the kitchen but nowhere near the floor, etc. |

I have found they love the coolness of outdoor mulch around your house, especially if you have a lot of shrubs that keep the mulch damp. Those things are so fast. They seem to sense when you are going to try to kill them and they disappear! |

OMG!!! I've been suffering from this roach plague for little over a year! Its horrible! I've been living in this same apartment building all my life & never had roaches until last year so I DEFINATELY know someone brought them in w/ them while moving in. We've tried everything....boric acid....sprays.....that stuff in a tube that u put over cracks. They would go away for a little while but then rally up again! We were goin to bomb the house....but we don't want to put our cat at risk of anything. It makes me so angry....I can't bring anyone to my house because its so embarrassing. When people see roaches the automaticly think you're dirty which isn't true. These lil fellas can endure anything......they could probably live through a nuclear war!!!! I saw ur post & told my mom about it. But can u just explain how u did it step by step. We're a lil confused about the boiled egg yolk in water thing. :-\ P.s. thank GOD we only get like an average of 1 waterbug a year & yea its during the summer time. They drive me crazy because they're sooo big & they FLY!! I think I have a phobia of them ever since I havd a bad experience with 1 when I was younger (it flew & hit me in my eye)....I didn't sleep for days. :( |
K so you just boil a couple eggs...once boiled get rid of the white part and keep the yolk. Then i coat the yolk with honey and roll it in boric acid powder-which i put a bunch in a bowl or something. The honey will make it stick to the egg yolk. A friend told me she just mixes the egg yolk with water and boric acid but i find it to work better with honey and the roaches just fly to it, eat it and dieeeeee! lol The egg yolk dries and gets hard over time. Hope it works for you!:) btw don't let your cat get to it |
Lol. Thanks sooo much. We're definately goin to try this! Yea we're gunna put them in the cabinets & other high places so she can't get to it. |
So this seems like a good place to post... I MUST rant! I just killed a freaking roach YUCK. we had the place baited in September... I sure hope to *&@! this is the one last ancestor from our move... Some of you may remember my ordeal... well we've decided that if we see one more then we're going to re-call the bait people. I just really don't want to have to go through this again. (catch-up story: moved out of a place with a huge roach problem, despite all efforts a few came with, so we baited, Harley got sick, possible ingestion of a dead one, and haven't seen any for months, a month ago saw a dead one, ie bait did well). UGH... I just really needed to rant... I don't dare tell my friends because they used to be afraid to come to my apartment after the first infestation. God please be on my side today. PLEASE. |
Nice one, I should try it, we have roaches in the bathroom and sometimes in kitchen. (*Yuck) |
