Does anyone have fibromyalgia? I am in the process of going to a specialist to find out what is wrong with my joints. She does not think it is fibromyalgia as my only symptom is aching joints, however, she won't be sure until my blood tests come back. She is leaning more towards hypermobility syndrome (basically being double jointed- which I am in a few of my joints). Anyways- if you do have fibromyalgia- what are you symptoms? |
I have fibro which is not going to show up in blood tests. It's a nasty syndrome which mimics alot of other things. If you are double jointed, I think maybe they should be looking at Ehlers Danlos instead. That is a connective tissue disorder that causes alot of problems but is less well known. You can google it. I think you will be surprised. She is right in as much as fibro doesn't just affect joints...pain is all over. In a flare the entire body hurts. Sometime it hurts just to be touched (the skin hurts) It is a problem with how the nerves transmit pain signals, so it isn't just the joints. |

I do have FM too and my whole body hurts if it flares up. I got the most relief from hypnosis. |

Aw Marci, just want to wish you well, my friend! I hope they can pinpoint what's going on with you. My MIL has fibro and a few other things, and the "flares" can be tough. She is now well managed though. Big hug to you and Layla! :) |

My 24 year old dtr has been having problems for over a year with her knees filling with fluid and aching. She was seeing a joint doc to drain and cortisone shots. She was recently referred to a rheumatologist when her elbows started acting up too. She was diagnosed with Active inflammatory polyarthritis. She is currently undergoing treatment to find out what meds ad dosing will work for her. I am glad you are seeing a rheumatologist. I wish she had a year ago so we wouldn't have wasted all the time with the joint doctor. I hope you find an answer and feel better soon. |
I have fibromyalgia and my symptons are that I get really tired, and ache all over. If you go on the internet it will show you where the most sensitive parts of your body when you have fibro. They put me on medication that seemed to be helping, but they had to take me off it, because I have heart problems, and the medication they put me on can cause a lot of heart problems, so I'm basically down to a rub on cream, and pain medication. |

Your specialist might test for ANA antibodies. and should take a through case history, as well as an extensive physical examination. Are your joints swollen as well as aching? Do you remember flu like symptoms prior to the onset of the aching joints? Have you noticed any rash on your face or neck? If so what was it like? The color the shape? Do your aching joints feel less sore at the end of the day? How long does the stiffness or achiness last in the morning? These are just a few of the questions the specialist will ask. |
I also got almost pain free with accupuncture but I can't afford it anymore so I just hypnotise myself and can tune out the pain. I took classes in hypnosis and have some CD's to get me on the way. I love it and once you have it down it is cheap too! |
FM sufferer here. My MD described it as the nerves being over reactive, and it causes widespread pain all over when you have an occurrence. I take Topamax to treat it; however I was misdiagnosed with RA for a few years before they were able to successfully treat my case. I'm thankful that your MD seems to be investigating a bit more thoroughly than my first doctor did. Good luck, and keep us posted on what you find out. The good news is that whatever it is, it is manageable with proper treatment. |
Marci, I believe our diet is the beginning and ending of alot of health issues. I could pin point days I would have joint pain and connect it to certain foods. So I went in search of answers. I bought a book that changed my life. Its called the complete idiots guide to an antiinflammatory diet! There are many ailments that are inflammatory related. Bronchitis, asthma of which i used to get every winter..Coronary artery disease and joint destruction. Since I have eliminated inflammatory foods from my diet I no longer have joint pain and this was the first winter I did not even have a cold. Since then, I have a become a vegetarian..and have really gone off the deep end with juicing and trying to eat as much raw as I can..but it was the little changes that made my life pain free! Its a very inexpensive experiment to see if helps you!! just google inflammatory foods. its good being pain free again |
I was diagnosed with fibro and chronic fatigue several years ago due extreme fatigue and extreme joint pain. I had terrible facial pain and jaw pain as well. It turned out to be an infected jawbone from a tooth implant that I had. Don't even get me started!! |
