A little bit of a vent- sorry SO I am kind of upset because I don't understand how people can do this. I know a girl who has about 4 cats and had two large breed dogs. One of them was just in the paper a couple months ago because it got out of her yard and someone shot it in the face with a pellet gun. She had pleaded with the people of the city and had donations set up to cover medical bills. Well I was being a snoop and looked at her facebook AND she got rid of that dog!! BECAUSE HE'S BIG. He was a lab and what the heck do you think, he was going to stay small? Get this part. SHe got rid of him not only because he was big, but because she wanted to get a smaller dog  So now she has the one large breed and got a Chi-terrier mix dog. What the hell is wrong with people? WHY would you get rid of one dog and get another? Isn't ownership a commitment. Shouldn't you consider all before getting a dog? These are not shoes you return to Wal-mart because they don't fit or aren't in style any more. I just wanted to send her a msg and tell her off but she is so d**mb it would be like arguing with a tree. Well thats my vent lol |
Alot of people think dogs are disposable and its even worse with cats. Its unfortunate and I dont know how they can sleep at night but its a reality |

We don't have a cat problem in our neighborhood. I've only seen one or two walking around and thats in the last year that I've lived in my house. We do however have alot in our shelter who are PTS very often. It's so sad. We're really not cat people otherwise I'd get some but I'm at my limit here. |
I dont understand how anyone could just get rid of a dog.. it would be like getting rid of a family member :( |

:( wow I haven't read that, I have seen some get rid of dogs and add new ones. I don't think it's right. I've seen some say they didn't work out and they went to a GREAT HOME. That is nice but to me it is just an excuse for them to not feel bad about getting rid of dogs. It personally drives me crazy. |

It's really sad, but there are so many dogs that are just dumped off. The rescue I worked with (Rescue Me - Yorkie Rescue) has so many Yorkies on their website that were the victims of abuse or neglect, or who were just no longer wanted because they were old. Please, please, please adopt!!! There are so many dogs out there, Yorkies included, that have been dumped and need good homes. Oh, and I'm with lil_fu_fu_girl - People are the worst species around! |
Did you know that only 1 out of 10 dogs and 1 out of 12 cats ever find a forever home, its sad but its a fact!!! Spay and neuter...I have 2 yorkies and 2 cats, two of my cats I got when they were only 3 weeks old I had to bottle feed them, the people that had them was sitting in front of the Publix that I shop at told me they had to get them out of there apartment cause the landlord was going to throw them out if they didn't...they had two babies left I took both god only knows what they did with the Mom...sad!!! |
I just don't understand people. My neighborhood has a huge stray cat and dog problem. I wish more people would spay/neuter so we could start reducing the amount of unwanted dogs. Pets aren't disposable but unfortunately many people see them that way:confused: |
I could never imagine getting rid of one of my babies because I want a new one. Its unfortunate people think of their pets that way. I should though add that I can understand why breeders have to rehome certain dogs. I can't imagine how difficult it is but for a breeder I understand they can't keep them all as much as they would like. |
Wow. She traded her dog in for a smaller one? I will never understand people! |
I know I take dogs on as a lifetime commitment (the good, the bad, and the ugly) and sometimes it has been a struggle but we've always made it through to the end; however, that being said I was raised on a ranch and (had my child heart broken many a time) when a working dog "outlived" it's usefulness and look at breeders who sell off their breeding stock after they've outlived their breeding usefulness, keep it a few years, breed it, then when it's longer producing, out it goes...bath water and all. Sadly, it's a reality that people give/sell/---or worse --- their dogs when they are no longer what they wanted or "needed". |
I will never understand people. How they can change animals the way they change their shoes. It is such a sad fact that is all too common. |

Would they do that with their children as well? |
I am starting to think it would be a good idea for all dogs & cats to be neutered/spayed before going to a "pet" home. Dogs should not be a source of income unless you are a registered and licensed breeder. |
I saw a post on here a little bit earlier, it was a man posting, he and his wife just had a baby and were looking for tips on how to introduce the baby and the yorkie. People were advising to spend extra time with his yorkie so the pup didn't feel left out. He posted back that he planned to spend extra special time every day (I believe he said) with his yorkie, after all, the yorkie was their first baby. I was so touched (and sorry, may not have worded above statement quite correctly) as too many people get pets as their practice baby and easily and quickly get rid of them once the "real" baby arrives on scene. That post really warmed my heart this evening when I have been so disheartened by posts of several people treating their pets like money making objects:mad: |
glad to see eveyone is of the same mind on this one, this person should be put down |
I just HATE that! My aunt (who is not blood related, she married my dads half brother) had a Lab that died last 4th of July. It was so sad and everything. Well, one week later, she went to the pet store and got a little "Silkshire Terrier" (silky/yorkie) and when I told her that wasn't a breed, she matter of factly told me he was, lol. Well she claimed he "drove he crazy" so she just gave him to her sister. About 2 months after she just gave away this dog... she goes and gets a Shepherd mix puppy. Wonder how long she will have this one? |
:( I guess if people like that woman that just "got rid" of her adopted Russian son by dumping him back to the orphanage because he had "isssues" could do that, then dumping a pet has even less conscience problems for them. |
I am one of those people who "threw away" one dog after getting another. We recently rehomed my boston terrier. I now have a yorkie, chi and a pom. Sophie the boston is now with my mom with a fenced in yard and several more dogs more her size. She is loving the fenced yard which we don's have. She is almost 1 yr old. I knew she would be bigger than my other dogs, that is what I wanted. I thought even with my health problems I could take care of her. Then my husband found bruises on me where she would put her paws on me. He went ballistic. He said he could not let that happen and I could not handle or train a 17 lb dog. My heart is breaking esp when she is not cuddled next to me at night. My mom wanted her from the start and she treats her animals with a lot of love. I tell you this hoping I will not get blasted. In our situation my dh thought it was best. Her energy and weight was just something I could not handle. He was afraid I would refracture my back with her. I love my furbabies. I have to limit the breeds to what will hopefully be under 10 lbs. If they get bigger than that my hubby promises no more giving away. |
Ok I confess I rehomed a rescue Westie sadly recently, I had spent 18 mos. in the hopes of getting this dog I adored housetrained. Between the Nanny and I she was rarely alone, in fact when in the kennel she would not make a mess. Take her out, and I mean outside for maybe up to 6 hours and you could not get this dog to potty. the second she got inside the flood or tootsies would drop. I felt as if we had made progress since she finally was not afraid of a blade of grass blowing in the wind. She now walks with her tail in the air! But in the last few months acts of aggression towards my other westie Kismet were getting violent. And it would just be a momentary stray look. No food , person or toy involved. She mothered Mia a lot (afterall she was a mill producer for 4 years) I finally realized she needed to be an only dog and had Little White Dog work with me to find an older person to hold and love her in addition to being able to accomodate the housebreaking issue. It happened over the 4th of July, it was a terribly difficult decision. But since she has left, Kismet has become the sweetest and calmest Westie ever and loves Mia. Mia and Kismet have bonded which is nice. But yes I am one of those persons, I have never done this before but finally realized I wasn't being fair to Emma either. So I do believe we have to look at what is best for our children and yes my furbabies are my children also. I know where she is and they are sending me updates which is nice and part of my request. Maybe I didn't have that right. But I lost the terrier of my heart about a year and a half ago. I am just finally healing, I thought we were both broken and maybe we would heal together. We started the process but got to a fork in the road. Mia is actually my daughters but has stolen my heart to say the least. I love Kismet also but just different I guess..... SO Sorry if this upsets everyone, I am a good loving decent terrier worshipper. If I can't be who they need is it fair? |

I wish stricter laws applied to people dumping/abandoning pets. I wish every county in every state required a license for pet ownership and required them to be registered. I would gladly pay to own my girls. That might keep some of the irresponsible people from owning. But you know the saying...Wish in one hand... |
