Frustrating, foolish, dangerous, ILLEGAL! Today mum and I was driving into town to go to the shops. Elderly lady driving with an unrestrained Shih Tzu on her LAP while she drive! How can people be so fool and selfish and dangerous to doggie? She had window down too, he could have just jump out!! |
Some people are just stupid :( |
Well, when I went to pick up Piper she threw up in the car. I forgot her carrier so I had to do something with her. I had a cloth shopping bag. She went in the bag (with her head sticking out) and then in my lap. No more puking because she was more stable and she felt more secure. My window was up though. Anyway, add me to the foolish and stupid club! :D |
I guess I am foolish and stupid too sometimes! I make my boys sit in the passenger seat or in the backseat of the car when I drive, but sometimes my Dexter whines so hard and so loud and it's so annoying I let him curl up in the ball on my lap! Its the only way he'll stop and I can't take that kind of whining for a 1/2 hr straight! I just can't! |
This dog was not curl up in ball...This dog was about to jump out window. :( It illegal and very sad. |
Yeah Ive heard that some dogs will do that.... I wouldn't want that to happen to my boys... I always keep a leash on them in the car. I had a friend who had a Sheeba Enu (sp?) and the dog jumped out of the car one time and took off for DAYS. my friend went back to the neighborhood day after day to find him. he finally did actually! My Fletcher knows how to open my automatic windows so now I have to lock the windows on him! LOL |
One time a little foxy was tied to back of ute, poor thing jumped off and was smashing into car and owner not notice. We were honking, light flashing for what seem like forever before he pull over. Hope little guy survived. |
Ollie helps me drive T Walla Grant's Photos | Facebook And when Ollie isnt driving....I always let Sam and Ollie sit in my lap and hang their head out when we cross the tracks in my town t o come home. They know exactly what it means too when we go over the tracks, Ollie starts pawing at the window and Sam, well he just hits the window buttons:rolleyes: Its not illegal here tho. |
To be honest I surprised so many people do this...It seems highly unsafe. Would you hold toddler on lap while driving? I like those car seat you get for dog or at least leash in back seat. I recently learn tying dog in back of ute very dangerous too...Dog need be as secure in car as human in my opinion. |
I have allowed Maddie to ride in my lap before. However, after another member here recently was in an accident, I am too afraid of the airbag crushing her so she does not do that anymore. I could never forgive myself if something happened to her b/c of my ignorance. |
I've allowed Jackson to sit on my lap before and stick his head out the window. I usually allowed it when we were almost arrived to home, or to my dads house because he gets excited. He pretty much rides the whole car ride (even if it's 2hours) with his head sticking out the BACK seat window... he just loves it. However since getting in an accident where the airbags came out, if he had been on my lap... he most likely would have been dead or badly hurt. So no more for us. I'm getting him a dog car seat so that he can stay in back securely but still stick his head out the window. |

Well I guess I am another to add to the list because occasionally I let my two sit on my lap too while driving. :p A toddler and a dog are two different things and really shouldn't be compared! Thats like apples and oranges. It may not be safe and I know I shouldn't do it but sometimes you do things you shouldn't do I guess. I like to tie their leashes to the headrest so they lay down on the passenger side, or they ride in the back. I just really don't have the room for a dog car seat. We're trying to buy an SUV so we can put them in the crate in the back for driving. |
While it may be the first three adjectives, it's not illegal. Actually allowing a dog to ride any where in a vehicle uncrated or unsecured is dangerous. Get into an accident and your baby becomes a dog cannon ball inside your vehicle. |
It is illegal here... |
