I do. I love online backup and have been using it for almost a couple years, and finally settled on MyOtherDrive. You can choose the time for it to auto-back-up (like 2am). You can have certain files 128-bit encrypted, if needed (I haven't used this/needed this). I think I've tried about 5 or so online back-ups and this is the one I really like the best. There are many others out there too, though.

Do you know how to use your "file explorer"? If yes, that's usually what I use. Since I keep most everything in My Docs (not on the desktop), I can right click on the My Docs folder and get lots of info about size etcetera.

Or, let's say you only want to back-up certain files within My Docs (like some pics?), that's fine too, so you could choose a file and right click on it to see its properties/size.

Yes, I'm very happy to know of the Spybot thing now since our computer was always seeming to run slow. The computer guy told me to run it at least once a week because no, it's not automatic.

I guess we've gotten pretty lucky so far. We bought our first computer over 15 years ago and it died about 5 years ago. Then my husband's uncle who works for a large "to be un-named" company got us a used computer from there that they were planning to trash. Of course they wiped everything off first. Well, that's the one we're still using now. The monitor is old and clunky but a pretty nice size. To plug in stuff to the CPU you have to pull it out and plug it into the back of it.... that's the archaeic thing I hate the most. But for now, it gets the job done! It's really only for recreational use.

I couldn't help myself - I had to go look. :p Everything I read about AVG was very positive, and the articles all said AVG and Avast worked much the same way. Here's a quote from one article about AVG which makes me feel much better. :)

I have AVG...it runs continuously. When you first download it, its set to run everyday unless you change the setting. When its suspects a page with risks on it...it wont even open. I think its run basically the same as AVAST.

Years ago i had Norton. It came with my computer that i had ordered. Then when it came time to renew it. It wiped out my computer entire harddrive. The funny thing is the EXACT same thing happened to my neighbor.:mad:

Sounds great! I figured there was a reason my cousin recommended it (and uses it himself). I just wonder if it's good to have both AVG and Avast on your computer. Will they conflict with each other or in some other way cause problems?

I know people who've had Norton for years and I had it a long time ago but to cut costs I asked my cousin (the computer tech) about free ones. That's when he said that he hears about a lot of people having problems with Norton and recommended AVG. I guess it's all a personal preference.

You should NOT be using AVAST and AVG together. I've learned that using 2 antivirus programs together is useless and slows down your computer and will most likely cause more problems than will help. Pick one (they both run continually)and run it with Spybot about once per week. Or you can try Nortons as well. I too have had an issue with Nortons though.

No, I don't know "file explorer". This weekend when I have more time to jack with it all I will try to figure out what you're talking about. Thanks for that info though!

My laptop is new so I have Norton free for 30 days and Ill probably continue with it after that

Okay, thanks for the input! So now I guess I have to decide which one....

So having the malwarebytes along with either Avast or AVG plus Spybot... is that okay?

Can I ask ONE more question before downloading the malware protection?? I've been told not to have both AVAST and AVG at the same time but it IS okay to have AVG and malwarebytes at the same time, right? Those are different things that they are trying to protect against, right? I also have the spybot one that the computer techs installed after fixing it this week.

I'm not really sure. I have never used malwarebytes. I bet Wylie's Mom can help.

Thanks. I'll wait and see if she sees this. I thought V. said she uses both but I can't remember.

The last time I had my computer fixed, the guys said that it's ok to have more than one spyware program, it's probably not necessary but it's ok. You cannot have more than one virus program, but you can have one virus and several spyware.

Great, thanks! That's what I was thinking.... Avast and AVG are virus programs but spybot and malware are different kinds from those. I'm learning! ;)
