Cat question?? Need HELP!! I have 2 rescue cats, male and female, both are fixed and 8 years old. I just discovered *massive* amounts of cat urine in my leather sofa's. They have both been with me since kitten-hood and never had experienced a problem like this. Both had check up's in the past 6 months and passed with flying colors. A few years ago our male cat had problems with urinary blockage and $1500 later came home happy and healthy. We now have them on perscription food for urinary tract issues and never had any problems. They are both indoor kittys from day one and behave wonderfully. Could this be male marking and why the sofa, love seat and chair? I really don't know where to begin with preventing this from happening again? I'm going to take them to the vet but not sure what to expect so any advice is appreciated. They both seem to be eating, drinking and playing as usual and honestly I'm not sure how long this has been going on as we almost never use this room. Please help:confused: |
Has anything happened in their routine? Were there major changes? Did you notice they were miffed about something? A lot of times that's how a cat will tell you she is upset about something; they pee on the couch, the bed or where ever else. But still a good idea to let the vet have a peak and get them checked. Am sure you know that but there are enzymatic cleaners available that should help to eliminate the odour. Good luck. |

Yes, I agree vet check first. Have you changed litter brands? If yes go back to the old, If no, try changing, may be something they don't like. Look at the litter boxes too. Maybe a new one would help, different style maybe. And have at least two in different rooms. If they're spayed and neutered, it's not marking. Womens feminine douche products will kill any cat odor, even intact male urine odor. Best thing I've found. Use it last after enzyme cleaners. If no medical reason is found, you could try confining them to one room, feed at one end, potty at the other, until they regain proper potty habits. Put them in that room when you leave the house too... to be sure you break the habit of using the furniture. |
There is a very good chance he has stones again. I would get him ASAP as he could block up again. |
It is very important that you rule out medical problems quickly. Cats will develop a preferance to urinate in one location so it is likely that if there are no medical problems, he just likes to "go" in this spot for what ever reason. It is an extremely difficult habit to break once they switch up their desire to urinite in a specific location, and that is why it is so important to rule out a medical problem quickly. |
We just came back from the vet and I'm so glad we went today because our male cat has a UTI infection and inflamation of his private area. I feel awful I didn't find out sooner. Ally now has 3 perscriptions to take over the next few days and we had to room him away from the other cat so we can monitor his urine. Thanks everyone! |
