Dogs riding in back of Trucks Are there any laws against this as last night I saw two labs in back of truck chained down but it just seems so dangerous to me as they can try to jump out while chained or if the driver stops all of a sudden and they lose footing they can choke or God for bid they get in an accident. It just seems really dangerous so was curious if any laws against this like there are for leaving dogs in cars as we have a law against that here now? |
I live in whats consider a rural area, and we do not. A lot of the farm/ranch owners have their dogs riding in the back, not chained. I guess they are used to goin thru the pastures. I hate hate hate hate seeing it going down the highway. |
I was at the vets with Daisy when she was getting a physical and a woman came in with her lab that had jumped out of the truck and another car ran over it. It was not a pretty sight. I guess the vet tech had to carry him in and there was blood everywhere. They had to put the dog down:thumbdown I don't think it is safe in my opinion. It was such a sad thing I even cried:( |
yeah just do not understand it :( so sad |
I live in a rural area too. There are idiots around here who let their kids and their dogs ride in the back of pick-ups. It makes me cringe ever time I see it. |
I can't stand seeing people do that. Not long ago, there was a truck coming from the other direction and right before he met us, his dog, a chow, jumped out of the truck in front of us. It tumbled across the road and was laying on the side. I thought surely it was dead. And the idiot was oblivious until he flagged him down. We stopped and he stopped and miraculously, the dog was still alive. He sat up, but had blood coming out of his mouth and wouldn't get up and move. The worst part was, it was a big chow, named "Killer". We figured the obvious action would be for him to rush the dog to the vet. Wrong, he just keep sitting there looking at it, saying "Oh man, oh man." Guy said it was his mom's not his and it was clear immediately he was afraid of it. I finally told the guy, "Look, you HAVE to take this dog to a vet, he is hurt badly and is going to die if you don't." Told him where a nearby open vet was. Hubby finally told him he would help him get him into his truck and made him get his head. Told him it was his dog and if it bit anyone it was going to be him. Something in the pit of my stomach told me that if we had not been there, he would have never stopped. He would have left the dog there, and I'd bet my right arm he never took the dog to the vet. |

I can't believe my parents let us do this when we were kids! Lordy, I remember being piled on top of a truck bed full of camping supplies traveling down bumpy old backroads and there would be 8-10 kids back there. We were a handful, but what were my parents thinking? |

I hate to see kids OR dogs riding in the bed of a truck. I investigate auto accidents and I can't tell you all the bad things that come from this. It is definitely not safe and I see it all the time around here. |

But, still, I know what you are saying. Just dangerous. |
