Any hair colorists here??! Does anyone here color hair for a living or color their own hair at home and always achieves the hair color you want? I need help please with a hair color question |
If your going to do yours at home I hope you have better luck than I did.....I wanted to see if I could do it but mine went red, mind you the box was blond.....I wore a do-rag on my head until I could get in and have it corrected..... I don't know what my sister did but her hair actually went green.. She still plays around with home dyes.....but I won't touch them... |
I dye mine. With your home dyes you have to change the color gradually rather than drastically to get good results |
My mother was a colorist at one time, so I always go to her when I want to change the color of my hair at home. She has a color wheel with the name brand dye colors and it gives the base color, so I get great results when I go to MOM! I did not seek her advice once and will never do it again! I thought a Ash Blonde would look good to try and when I was all done coloring my hair, I had greenish brown hair:eek: I am naturally a dark golden blonde and now I stay away from dyes with a green base color. |
Thanks. I was wondering if I want to dye my hair like a strawberry blonde do I buy the hair dye in strawberry blonde or a different color because I know that it depends on your natural hair color. Mine is brown. |
Mizz I am and have been a stylist for over 15 years. I specialized in color from the start. I will be very honest with you. Getting a strawberry blonde color on your own is very hard to do. Esp from a brown. Your going to pull more of an orange/copper color. Also be aware that red shades fade faster then any other color. What that means in simple terms is it will become dull rather quickly. Let me also tell you something I see time and time again. Woman comes into the shop and says I tried to color my hair and sits a box on the counter. At this point it becomes a corrective color process. B/c anything that shes done to her has must be removed before you can fix the color to something she wants. You can't just color over color to get it lighter. It just doesn't work. Save your pennies and start with some highlights. They are much easier to maintain cost wise then all over color. Also, if that didn't steer you away. In almost all cases of store bought color (unless you bleach your hair first) you can't go from a brown to a blonde. |
Thanks a lot for your input! I have highlights already but I want something different. I wasn't going to buy the hairdye from the drugstore that most ppl buy..I was going to buy the professional hairdye that hairstylists use. However I wanted to make sure to get the right color, so I went to the hair salon and asked them and decided to let them do it my first time and hopefully learn from them. I already know what colors they are gonna use, I am using Goldwell hairdye. I just want to see them do it first since it is my first time dying my hair a full color, but i have done highlights. That's what I was afraid of as well-getting the orange look lol So i won't be doing it myself just yet |
I used to do my hair in crazy colors in high school, hot pink, purple, navy blue, green, etc. My hair is black, so i had to bleach my hair completely out until it was light yellow,, then put in the color. It was so time consuming to maintain, but i did it for years. I guess i did it bc it bugged my mom :D |
I think I remember reading that a Ytr named "inabowina" (or something similar) is a hair stylist....you might try her??? |
