Holy Poop!!!! Nasty little critters...I always worried about the dogs in the yard but I never saw one in the house...and now this...Whoa...So glad everyone is doing okay...

Sookie 06-13-2010 07:24 PM

I'm glad your DH is doing better - I'm sure it was scary for both of you. My best to you and your hubby.

The Lavender I'd heard of from people that have lived in the south of france.

I'm sure that it is why the French practice is featured in the movie. The English characters, not knowing, throw away the "dead" lavender they find on the window sills and the scorpions start moving into the villa.

I wish I had known about the lavender when I lived in AZ. My mother sat down next to one at Sunday brunch at a Phoenix hotel once, lol.

OMG Ann, i'm so glad your hubby is going to be ok. that is so scary. I thank god i live in a place where i don't have to worry about killer bugs. i am terrified of creepy crawly things and would probably have a heart attack if i saw anything like that in my house.

Judy in Waco 06-13-2010 08:12 PM

Yikes!! I almost hate to ask, but if a scorpion will do that to an adult male, what would it do to a yorkie??

Kandi and Gizmo like to chase any bug that manages to get into the house. They really like June bugs and I have to be really vigilant during that season.

Oh my stars... my heart was racing and I was short of breath just reading your post! I canNOT even begin to imagine the anxiety I would be feeling if I were in your shoes! You seem like you were so calm and collected! I am so glad there aren't scorpions in KY... I just canNOT even imagine! I think I would be totally paranoid and afraid to even walk around in my house after something like that happened. But I get scared really easily and I don't do anything daring at all lol but just thinking about it gives me anxiety. :(

I am so glad that your hubby is healing. (((hugs))) You are such a wonderful wifey!

cj125 06-13-2010 09:17 PM

Happy to hear that your hubby is doing better. Hoping next weekend is "uneventful" for you! :)

I guess I should be happy with just having to deal with Black Widows. At least they know that they can't come in the house - they have to stay outside! :D

Amazing Yorkies 06-13-2010 09:28 PM

WOW! How frightening! I'm glad all is well, and that you all made it to Sunday!

107barney 06-13-2010 09:51 PM

OMG, that is so scary! I like the idea of lavender around the house. It might be a good idea to spritz the hubby with lavender water too just for a little extra insurance. The house and hubby will smell good (an added bonus!).

I'm glad Marcel and Tony are on the mend.
Hugs!

MauiGirl 06-13-2010 11:11 PM

Thank God your hubby is ok, gosh what a scare!

I lived in Arizona for years, saw scorpions occasionally and have even seen a few in Maui, but I've never heard of anyone having such a terrible reaction to a bite.

I hope next Saturday is soooooo uneventful and boring at your house, that you will just have to sit around and play with pups and take videos to help pass the time. Gosh Ann, you must not have one drop of adrenalin left after the last 2 emergencies.

ryorkies 06-14-2010 02:12 AM

Anne, what a scare and I was so relieved to read the rest of your post. I have only spent a short time in Arizona and had no idea that scorpions could be such a threat ... especially in ones home.

I quoted the post below because, this is why I appreciate Yorkie Talk so very much. Our members are just a wealth of information and although I never this about Lavender ..... I do now. Thank you !

Anne, So glad that your hubby is doing better.

It is my understanding that Scorpions are a problem in the south of France and they use Lavender as a natural repellent. Cut lavender on window sills and thresholds. Lavender oil and soaps in dark areas. Since they are low to the ground and sensitive to moisture loss, a black light when hunting them down in your house. Once a nest has been established and they've multiplied a professional is needed. It seems that may be necessary anyway to do away from their food source; other insects...do away with insects they leave.

Reese1 06-14-2010 03:13 AM

Ok Ann, you have had enough excitement for this week!
I'm glad your husband is ok, how scary!
I hate bugs, I would be terrified of scorpions, ugh!
I think you have earned a quiet, peaceful week!

luvfla 06-14-2010 04:01 AM

I'm allergic to fire ants (which we have a ton of in Fla) I have an Epi Pen for mulitple bites. Did the Doc send him home with a script of one?

GURL...you gots some BAD juju!

ladyjane 06-14-2010 04:47 AM

Just seeing this. OMG I would probably never go back in my home. :( I am happy that all is well now, but oh please, I cannot imagine going through that. :(

RDB911 06-14-2010 05:19 AM

Wow that's very scary...happy your husband is recovering...

Definitely call the exterminator for an extra spraying...

chattiesmom 06-14-2010 05:48 AM

Ann, I am so very sorry for you and your husband. What a dreadfully painful and scary episode. It sounds like you kept your "level professional head" during the event and did all of the right things. Your hubby is so very lucky to have you. :D

It is amazing the strength we have in true emergencies and the ability to overcome obstacles. What a fantastic idea to have hubby lay down on the blanket so you could pull him to the garage. Please be sure to check your shoes before you put them on and shake out all clothing.

Sending  and :hands: your way.

...btw -- next Saturday, you might settle for popcorn and a movie :D

Ringo1 06-14-2010 05:51 AM

Sounds very scary! I am glad everything is all right. Can't wait to see what you have in store for next Saturday! Oh yeah . . the locked and padded room. Sounds like a good plan.

Gennies 06-14-2010 06:35 AM

OMG how scarry!!!! Please call an ambulance next time. DH is a medic and trust me...your DH's case more than is justified in a medic call! Heck, people here call for stubbed toes. Remember that those resources are here to get you treatment as soon as they arrive. Thank God you didn't get hurt too trying to get him in your car! I hope DH is feeling better!

LuvMySissy 06-14-2010 06:48 AM

Holy Cow Anne!!!!! You just have way too much excitement going on in your life. Adrenalin definitely was pumping through your tiny body if you hauled Tony out of the house and into the car by yourself!!!!!!!! Glad this has a happy ending to it. I'd be petrified of finding scorpions in my house!!!!!!!

chachi 06-14-2010 07:10 AM

Ann you sure have had a lot of scary things happening in your house recently. Im glad Tony is doing better and I hope you find that scorpin

TammyJM 06-14-2010 07:12 AM

He is doing so much better! Exhausted and drained, but much better. He has tingling, numbness, and pain in his left foot only - where he was stung; he's limping, but his balance is way better, and he's not wobbly.

Talked to our exterminator, and even though they just sprayed 2 weeks ago (), they're coming out to do a special scorpio-only spray - so that should take care of any critters. AND, you can bet I'm stocking up on lavender!

I just hate these extra exterminating chemicals, but we have to keep hubby and the furs safe.

I am glad Tony is doing so much better!! Was he able to take some time off from work to rest? You guys need a stress-free weekend...maybe pack up the fur kids and go to a pet-friendly bed&breakfast for the weekend. ;)

Hugs to you...tell Tony that I said to stop stepping on those Scorpions....we get it, he's a manyly man. ;) No need to keep proving how tough he is. :D

OMGosh! What a scare! I'm so glad he's okay now! I know nothing about scorpions...so glad we don't have them here! It's weird that poison control didn't tell you to go right into the ER! I hope his symptoms have all passed by now!

Lisa and Pic 06-14-2010 12:28 PM

Oh Ann, all these awful things happening to the ones you love. You are a rock and don't know how you do it. My wish is for your next Saturday to be the most boring one ever.

Yorkiedaze 06-14-2010 12:53 PM

How horrible for your hubby and for you too. Thankfully your quick reaction help slow the poison process down. Now lets pray he is on the mend. Now is the time it seems to have your home sprayed.
