Ewww. Dead or dying bird on my deck! I went to let Lucy out this morning and saw an injured bird basically crawl up on my deck and hid under my hanging baskets of flowers. Probably trying to stay dry; it was raining. Lucy was already out . . I wondered what she would do. She ran up to the bird; sniffed it all around; then just walked away. Good Girl! It's a BIG bird. Now . . when I have to let my Westie out . . . could be another story. I hope it gets better and flys away before Ringo gets out! |
Careful birds carry illnesses and parasites, You should remove it or call animal control. I wouldn't let my dogs near it. |
I have a Westie too, and we call her the "bird killer". :(Fortunately, she doesn't get many. Edie, my Yorkie, tags along behind her Westie sister, but she doesn't get involved in the dirty work. |
It could be carrying West Nile Virus and contacting animal control would be a good idea. They night want you to pick it up and keep it for later. :eek: I live in Chicago and they are always tracking West Nile here. It has killed off many of the very large birds like crows in this area. All I can say is ewww! :rolleyes: |
Eww. I think it has gone; it must not be dead. It's raining hard so I'll go out and check here before the dogs go out. Of course, they have no interest in going out in the rain. Hmm. I wonder if my Westie had anything to do with this bird not being able to fly . . Matt had let him out early this morning. My Westie is a birdie killer!! So glad to learn that Lucy is not! |

Isn't it hard to believe that our precious babies are birdie killers? Even my Westie surprises me with his killer instinct. Birdie has disappeared; hopefully hopped or flew away somewhere far, far away. At least . . if she's smart she did. |
Whenever I see injured birds, I take them to the vet and if they can do something to rehabilitate them and then set them free they'll do it.( they take them to a bird sanctuary, or the bird sanctuary people co e to get them) Otherwise, the put them to sleep( at no cost). I like helping them to end their misery or keep them alive, because they do feel pain and it breaks my heart seeing them suffering. |

I know; I hate it that Ringo might have had something to do with injuring the bird. I was watering my hanging baskets yesterday and found a birds nest - hidden under the flowers (they hang down to my deck railing). There are no eggs in there and I have not seen the bird again. There is no bird carcass in my yard and I have a 6 ft privacy fence . .. so I am hoping the bird was able to fly away? I hope. It didn't take but a few minutes for the bird to disappear after I got Lucy in the house. Anyway, I will say that was not a smart place for the bird to build it's nest. Ringo spends more time on the deck than I do. I'll leave the nest there for a few more days but I don't think the bird is coming back; very wise move on her part. |
