What to use for weeds? I'm very particular about what I use around my babies but I am stumped as to what I can use to control weeds in my yard. My husband keeps saying we need to spray but I'm afraid to use anything so...we have dandilions. I think Megan has allergies but I don't know to what so chemicals scare me and I don't want something that the manufacture says is safe...I want something that Yorkie owners have tried and know is safe. Any suggestions? |
I have struggled with what to do for years (I don't even get my house sprayed for spiders - ick), but I finally broke down this weekend as I can't take a lawn 99% weeds. We sprayed weed and feed and it says it is safe for dogs once it dries. I try to keep them off it now as much as possible, just go do your business and get off. Everyone seems to be okay.... Maybe next we can venture into getting my house sprayed. |
Vinegar in a spray bottle is safe and a natural weed control. Best to spray weeds when the forecast is going to be sunny and warm for a few days. Only spray the weed not the grass. Another natural remedy is to boil a kettle full of water and then pour the boiling water on the weed. In lawns sometimes just removing them with a hand weeding tool works best, just make sure you get all the roots. If you remove the weeds by hand, really rake the grass hard to remove the dead thatch, and rake in a thin coat (1/4 ") of organic top soil to the lawn it really helps to get the grass thicker and healthier so there are less chance of weeds. Lots of new products for lawns now that don't contain herbacides, haven't really checked them out yet. Hope this helps a little.:) |

Wow I'm going to try the vinegar idea also. I have a brick patio and the weeds grow out from in between them and the babies are always "grazing" on it. I will try that on the patio. |
Is rabbit poo bad for dogs or something? Sorry if that's a dumb question... |
Sea salt (not table salt)sprinkled on the dandelion leaves and for other weeds we use a natural weed spray made from coconuts and also boiling water works as well but be very careful, we have a very natural back yard as we have a hedgehog family so they get the snails and slugs, for aphids spray on cool dish wash water(they hate the soap) |
