Good for you!!!! I quit "cold turkey" about 7 years ago...I love not smelling like an ashtray!!!! Keep it up -you can do it!!!:bravo: |
I am trying to quit now. I am doing the patches and gum |
That's great. Wish could get my DH to quit. Just take it one day at a time. |
Out of the blue one day about 14 yrs. ago I decided I was sick of buying and smoking cigarettes and just quit. I'm not saying it was easy, but every day it gets easier and you crave them less. It is so worth it, good luck! |
thank you all so much, my dh is doing it with me which really helps, we were smoking 50 a day between us, i know terrible,,, and more if we were out with friends havin a drink. thanks again the support is good to hear:D |
Wow....keep it one day at a time. But what is the electric cig??? |
lol its hard to explain,, it a pretend cigarette that has real smoke ,totally hamless, u can smoke it in bars, it is amazing if u type in ,,, e cigarette. it will tell u all about it, the next best thing to a real one ,only no tar and has to be charged aswell,:D |
I quit over 3 years ago, I smoked for over 20 years! I was on the patch for 3 weeks, but developed a rash from it. I think once you really what to quit you can. I had tried previous times before, but failed because I wasn't quite ready in my head to let go of the habit. Good luck to you :) |
i am on the patches aswell to take the edge off, they itch for a while, then it stops, do any off you still get the urge after years off stopping,???? that is the thing i most worried about, which seems years of torture or does it not ever bother you???? |
I quit 6 months ago. I quit cold turkey. I still find that sometimes I have the urge to smoke one. But I think about it, six months, six months! I'm doing so well, after six months I don't want to ruin it for myself and start again. I feel better, I can breathe, I can smell, I can taste. I don't smell. It's all good and all worth it. There were four other people I knew who quit as well, three around the same time as me and one before. My sister, cousin, and two aunts. All four of them started again. I'm still going strong, I'm proud of myself. :) I think I'm going to have to buy myself something nice and celebrate being 6 months smoke free. |
Even though once in awhile I'll have the urge to have one, it passes quick. Hang in there, you can do it. |
Congrats!! Hang in there!! I've "tried" more times than I want to admit - I even tried the Chantix, quit for a while and then went right back. Stress always sends me running back to nicotine. :( Doc wanted to know how I would handle stress w/o my cigarettes. I answered his question to which he restated his question with - what will you do to relieve the stress - that does NOT involve violence???? :D:D Didn't have an answer to that one. Best of luck to you!! You CAN DO IT!!! |
You can do it.....I have been without them for about ten years. I used the Wellbutrin pill(my insurance paid for it) and would highly recommend this treatment. It took the edge off enough that I was still pleasant to be around. I teach high school special needs....kind of a stressful job..so you can do it. Good Luck ,you are off to great start. |
3 Days! keep going you're past the worst now and you wont want to break your own record, keep a water bottle on hand for sipping it helps, I gave up 3 years ago and swear to never smoke again, I'm just trying to get hubby to stop now (without nagging) Our tobacco has gone up in price he now pays $25.00 for a 30gram packor $15.00 for packet of 20, whats your prices like over there? Imagine the treats you'll be able to buy your baby with that saving. |
Congrats Keep it up! You can do it!!! |
You can do it and congrats on the three days! I believe the chemical part will soon be out of your system, which is great news. :) and just think...your lungs are starting to heal already. Yea! |
to hear all you stories gives me hope, thank you and well done to u all xxx the cig over here are £6.oo a pack of 20 cigs , and there is some that cost even more, they will be goin up again. :D:D:D:D |
I wish you lots of luck!! I have went from two packs a day to two cigs a day and no inhaling!! I took chantix for a month and a half. I would love to get one of those electric cigs. I'm gonna search that right now. The chantix made me so sick!! |

How's the quitting going? It's been almost 3 and 1/2 years for me. everytime you get that hunger feeling have a glass of water it will pass. I quit cold turkey as I've done a million times before, but after 26 years of smoking that time it stuck. I hate the smell and can't stand the taste anymore, strange because I'd have one in my mouth every chance I got. |
Hang in there-you CAN do it!!! I smoked for almost 30 years(started senior yr of high school in 1977) and quit December of '06. I was facing mitral valve surgery in Jan. so I knew it had to stop. I just put them down. My only mind trick that worked for me was to wait--just wait a couple minutes before lighting up. The urge would pass and so on and on , until here I am almost 4 years later and have no more urge to smoke!:D Good luck to you! |
I know this is an old thread but Im quiting starting tomorrow. I have patches and chantix. One of our quit smoking groups is having a contest and you can win up to $2000 for quiting. I called them and they are the ones that sent me the patches and I had the chantix from unsuccessfully trying before |

I read the book "The easy way to quit smoking" by Allen Carr. Was amazing, no weight gain, no cravings and no bad mood. I didn't smoke for 6 months but then life became very stressful and although I know that cigarettes don't help I started again...:( Anyway, I will try again and hopefully hubby will quit this time too. |
I quit cold turkey 5 years ago Aug. 27. I hope you are successful in quitting. |
I quit. Cold turkey years ago. Granted, I still have the occasional puff with a glass of wine or when I'm really stressed or upset--maybe 4 or 5 a year. It really sucked for about a week, but sooooo glad I did it. :) |
hi everyone, yes i am still off them, its been 8 weeks now, which is totally amazing for me, but i do still get cravings and i have put on a stone in weight :( which is the worst thing for me,congrats to all that succeeded and good luck to the ones that are thinkin about it xxxxx if i did not have the e cig i know for a fact i cud not do it, the only thing is i smoke it like a cig, and it startin to cost me lol,,, still cheaper ;) |
