Virus protection software What anti-virus software do you recommend for PC's? |
I like AVG. I am forced to have McAfee at the moment but then will be over very very shortly and then I will be back to AVG. |
Avast worked fine for us. AVG was okay also. We used AdAware and Spybot too (I think it is). |
I use Avast and also Spybot. |
I just dug out my old desktop that I haven't used in at least 3 years and it has outdated versions of AVG and SpyWare on it from when I used it last. Guess the good things haven't changed too much. :) I'm not familiar with Avast or Spybot - I'm going to read up on those before I decide. Thank you all!! |

avast! Free Antivirus - Download Software for Virus Protection The home of Spybot-S&D! |
My son is in third year college for computer programmer/analyst(so I kind of trust him) and he hooked me up with Avast and it has worked amazing.:) |
Another vote for Avast here:thumbup: I had Norton on my computers (preloaded) and ALWAYS got viruses anyway, and a ton of false positives too. Garbage! I've not had ONE virus since installing avast, it's been about 2 years now. And it's FREE:D |

me too - used it for almost 10 years now |
You all are GOOD!! :D I road up in the elevator with my company's IT genius this morning, so I asked him this same question. He named 3 programs - Avast, AVG and another I don't remember. Once I heard the same two you all had recommended I knew I was set. I asked about spyware and he recommended AdAware, SpyBot and a couple of others but you guys had nailed it again. Thank you!! |

I had an IT guy at work - he referred us to Malwarebytes - I used to use A Squared.....it doesn't hurt to have several AVG Spybot Malwarebytes and for online scans and fixes - Trendmicro "Housecall" - that is a great program that my cable people recommended and I found it picked up stuff when my son messed up my puter - there's too many different ways now for those jerks to mess up our computers ! You need complete protection these days besides the normal virus protection - it sucks doesn't it ? |

Do you find that having all these installed/running slows down your computer much when you're online? It doesn't really matter, I'm a firm believer in having good protection these days. |

i do think you need the ones mentioned if you want protection - as I said - one good program will not pick up all - so you need multiple for the different things that affect the system. |

I looked at malwarebytes and I'm going to download it tonight. I also went with AVG because I already had it on the pc, just need to update it. The last thing will be getting spybot or adaware installed, which I will probably do tonight, too. |
Does everyone mainly use the free versions of these programs? Is it worth upgrading and paying the annual fees? |

I have a pay program that works great but didn't install it - a friend did and I wish he didn't cause when it runs out after a year - I'd have to pay I'd def go back to AVG - never had a problem with it - just turn on auto updates so you are always current with definitions ! |

I feel so much better now that I have all that in place. :D Thanks again everyone! |

also trendmicro housecall will be a good one to run after you do all the above - been using that one for years too - it finds AND fixes what others miss and is safe. My cable company turned me on to it years ago and its all over the geek sites as a good online scanner....some of those programs will scan but want you to pay - Housecall does it free |

I use microtrend |

You'll find its good - been using it for years and years now and was impressed with it - it comes highly recommended as a onine program - vs the other online programs that find stuff then make you sign up and PAY |
