Question about weddings/invitations/receptions A friend of mine is getting married however, she is not a close friend. I have hung out with her just a few times since we've known each other. We have gone out to dinner a handful of times, email funny stuff, txt her once in awhile, etc. She invited me to her wedding, but bf doesn't really want to go. I don't want to go by myself bc I don't know ANY of her friends except her fiance who've I met like 2x. Also, my bff is having her bridal shower the same day (and I'm a bridesmaid). Is it rude if I skip the wedding ceremony so I can go to the shower, then go to just the wedding reception at night? i know they have to pay for each person at the reception, but not necessarily for each person at the ceremony right? so would it better if I just rsvp her i can't attend at all, have her save a bit on me and bf not being at the reception or ceremony, and just send her a gift? I know absolutely nothing about wedding ettiqette, can you tell? What should I do? |

I would not go to a reception without going to a ceremony, the exception to that would be if thats how I was invited. IMO, going to a reception but not the ceremony would be rude. |
if it was me i wouldn't go to the reception unless i went to the ceremony |
I agree with the other posters, it would be rude to go to the reception only (receptions are so costly per person). Best to rsvp that you can't attend due to a previous commitment, and I'm sure she will understand. |
I agree with everyone else. I know a lot of people never attend ceremonies but I think that is just rude and they are just there to party. I guess I am amazed when people invite people like she did with you...While I know you would be a ton of fun..why would people invite someone who they are not that close to...I don't understand that and besides you need to be with your BFF and have fun... Do you think the invite is really for Noonie and you opened it by mistake?:p |

Can we bet on the marriage now....how long it will last??? I'm bad... |
Thanks ladies, that's what I was leaning towards too. Now what should i do about the gift? There was no mention of registry in the invite. |
Do you have a big department store in the area? Could she be registered with them? She sure isn't making this easy for you is she... Buy her some lotto tickets...I am just kidding.. |

Since you text, why not just text her and ask where she is registered at? If you dont feel comfortable doing that then I would do as LDM suggested, look for registry at some of your larger department stores and even Target. |

LDM looks like a religious name...just call me flopsey...:D |

Well, it is a filipino/american wedding. Most of her filipino family are "sponsoring" parts of the wedding as gifts (and it is prominently displayed on the wedding program). Most asian weddings you do not register at any store, they just expect money, but from friends, I have no idea. |

I bet she is registered then. Id just look online at places like Target, Walmart, Bed Bath Beyond, Pier One, Kohls, Dillards, Sears.. whatever you have in your area. You should be able to do a search by his or her name. When I made baskets/gift sets, I always sold quite a few wine gift sets for weddings and/or anniversaries. Nice bottle of wine, two glasses ( you could have them etched or whatnot), some cheese and crackers, candles, some romance music, just whatever. Gift card is nice too, attach it to a bottle of wine or candle set. |
