how much per sheet for sheetrock??? Just wondering if anyone knows what the "going" rate (ballpark) it costs to hang sheetrock, tape and spakel per sheet. I got an estimate this morning of $2,000 for 21 pieces of sheetrock. It seems high to me!! |
I know that prices vary a lot by location, but around here the labor is about the same price as materials for home projects. |
I think $95 per sheet is very high. The sheetrock is only about $7-$10 per sheet. I really don't want to do it myself but I think I am going to have to. I have another contractor coming so I will see what his estimate is. |
That does seem very expensive to me. I hope that the next contractor is more reasonable in prices. |
11.64/sheet for materials 4.00/sheet for installation and labor That's what we're currently paying our contractors to perform the work. Consider that we do get a discount due to the sheer volume of work we do with them... I just sent a go ahead to pay 2598.00 to a contractor for installation of a 1838 sq ft house...so....you do the math. |

I'm going to wait until I get another estimate. But I think between me, my dh and my 20yr old son we just may hang it ourselves and get someone to tape and spakel it. Hanging it is the easy part it's the taping that takes some skill. Just wasn't expecting to hear 2 grand for 21 sheets? |
That's about the going rate give or take a few hundred. I would get 1-2 more estimates. Many contractor and will price a job a little higher when he is really busy and a little less when it's slower. You also want to have options to choose the right person for the job. Good Luck! |

$95 a sheet? Give me your address, I will be there and do the job for $90. You will save, and I will make. Win-win. Way to expensive. Get a few more quotes, or call a builder and find out what team of drywallers he uses. They are super fast, and do great work, rather than Joe the Ragman. |
I'm just so agravated right now. It's a simple ceiling and one wall. I just talked to my dh and I think we are going to hang it. I think I will take my son out of college and tell him to hang drywall!!!! |

It took my dh a week to fix a hole in the wall in our other house. |

Yeah, I would like it done before Christmas rolls around again :D |
Well got another estimate this morning. $1576 for all. That seems a little more reasonable. $450.sheetrock labor $700.spackle labor $426.materials I'm getting another one this afternoon. Well it's 3:20pm and he hasn't called yet but I will let you know that total. |
One more came tonight and another coming in the morning. Question...I've never done this before. Do I call the others once I pick a guy and at least tell them I've chosen someone else? I just want to do the right thing and not lead them on. But I don't want to make it seem like they stick and their price was too high. What is the correct thing to do? I will let you know what the other 2 estimates are when I hear. Thanks guys!! |
