My family can still stay up until 5 or 6am partying when it's a "big" birthday. I had a "ghetto" stage too in public school (grade 7) and it was the KRIS KROSS days! haha and before that... the New Kids on the Block! Grade 3 love! lol I had the posters, and the pictures, and the trading cards and the dolls and all their tapes! we use to make up dances to their songs...lol Then it was pretty much grunge/punk until the raver days. I am still hardcore Pearl Jam fan, and I can never EVER give up my love for PUNK ROCK!!! but I've always loved dancing, always loved "beats" and that'll never change... I was that kid who was dancing around to everything, even if I was by myself! I'll dance all by myself to a song I really like! Madonna has been played in my house for as long as I remember! But I had a wild streak since the minute I turned 13, and I was moms "angel" until she figured out the truth ;) To be honest, I'm a really good person who's had fun in life! and me and my moms are going to see Black Eye Peas together in the VIP section this July. I can't wait to dance and party with my moms. My moms ran Pride in my hometown for years before giving it up because of lack of local support. Everyone wanted to party, but no one wanted to work! It was always their friends, my friends, and them. We had good times though! House music all the way!! My husband is so anti-dancing and anti-beats of any kind, I wonder how we ever got together! LOL! It came down to our love for Pearl Jam, and wine. I'm sure of it.....haha He's my total opposite in so many ways, but I'd be afraid to marry someone like me. We'd never settled down! |

back in my day I was more into Isley Brothers and all the old school R&B - Earth Wind and Fire and Ohio Players were my FAV - they can put on a show - Michael Jackson was unreal on stage - I always loved him - still do saw Bobby Brown and Luther many times - they were GREAT - I've seen tons of concerts - but not in years now - oh and Bruce Springstein for Rock - wow was he something else on stage - even tried an Elton John concert - that was pretty cool - he's so talented saw Aerosmith and a few others when a kid -but I'm too far advanced these days with alzheimers to remember Edited - since I want to clarify I'm NOT 120 years old -for RAP - The Ghetto Boys YES and Sugar Hill Gang - the first real 'rap' group ever - Curtis Blow (no laughing on his name !! I used to club with him) and would like to see Eminem - but I'd feel like an idiot there but do have his cd's that I made |
ps - you youngsters probably have no idea what I just said above - I posted for a reason - Turnaround is only fair ! :D:D That felt pretty good ! |

My iPod is soooo random. Honestly. I will listen to almost any kind of music. Like I said, the only stuff I was never big on was like punk music. I loved the alternative stuff from the 90's tho. Old R&B is my favorite. I have a few Marvin Gaye CD's. I love Earth Wind and Fire. I loooveee old Motown. You are SO lucky to have seen Michael Jackson in concert. So lucky. I've been a fan of his since I was little and still am a huge one. Also Aerosmith. My dad saw him 2nd row a few years ago (I think 2001-ish) and said they were amazing! Elton John is absolutely amazing too. People always make fun of me cuz I make myself mix CD's for the car drive and I'll go from a Frank Sinatra song to, like, Tupac. lol. old school rap is awesome!!! The crap today sucks. :( I listen to very little of it. Even tho I'm only 19, I have a deep appreciation of good music! |
Villette I am with you on this!! What are Candy days???? Back in the late 60's yes I said 60's we would hitchhike to the Kinetic playground and see top groups for 5 bucks!! Led Zeplin, The Animals, Buffalo Springfield and many more. I try and keep up on all types of music but totally missed what you guys are talking about!!! Sounded fun!! |
Patti, you must be a little older than me. My first concert was in '72....Black Oak Arkansas w/ Captain Beyond opening. I lied to my Mom and said we were going to the island for the weekend. Instead, we hitched to New Orleans for the show. We got home about sunrise and sat on the beach...cooling our feet in the water while watching the sun come up. The ticket prices were ridiculously low then. I once saw Jethro Tull at Audubon Zoo for $3.50. The most I've spent for a ticket was $95 to see the Eagles on the Hell Freezes Over tour. They were good but not worth that kind of money. I once drug my wife to see Tom Jones and had a blast. She really didn't want to go but now she loves him. Overall, the early 70's shows were the most mind-blowing. I got into a few of the 90's bands...like Soundgarden, Collective Soul, Pearl Jam and The Black Crowes. My new band I'm into is Them Crooked Vultures. I also am getting into Conor Oberst. There is some good new stuff if you can wade through the crap being put out. I also really like the old blues music with John Lee Hooker being my favorite...hands down. His 'Face To Face' and 'The Best of Friends' are some of his best stuff ever and were recorded when he was hitting 80. Also, his 'The Hot Spot' w/ Miles Davis is incredible. |

I saw Pink Floyd in '74?...anyway, it was the 'Animals' tour. They came on and did the whole 'Animals' album, then they played the entire 'Wish You Were Here' album. They came back and did 'Money' for an encore and that was the show. I used to sneak my camera into a few shows. I would strap the camera body and big ole zoom lens under my clothes and used a 1500 asa film so I didn't need a flash. I have some great pictures of Peter Gabriel and some really cool ones of Jimmy Page w/ The Firm. My best concert photos are of Stevie Ray Vaughan, taken during a Mardi Gras concert on a riverboat. It was televised by MTV and we hung out with the crew and had the best spot for watching the show and snapping pics. Somehow the pics turned out great. That was a small miracle, given the 'circumstances' :D. I took some pics at a Who show and those pics are memorable only for their awfulness. |

Oh man I hate these threads.. Either I am to old because I don't know who and the heck some of these groups are...or I do know the old ones... My first concert was the Beatles... |

I like the funky soul groups, too, especially The Temptations, Four Tops and Sly Stone. |

Since I grew up close to Motown I won't tell you who else I got to see for cheap $$$...Music was great during the 60's and 70's... Then when I got to be an adult I got to see some great concerts but the price tags were enough for a downpayment on a house...haha |

and yes - Rare Earth was great - Deep Purple too - man I'm going back in time I remember my mom dragging me to a Tom Jones concert - I actually like him but was pretty young at the time - now I'm just grateful I didn't witness her throwing her undies on stage - I did see alot of that at the concert  |

I wish I was a little older 'cause I missed out on seeing Hendrix, Janis and The Doors. I was too young at the time but I made up for lost time once I had my chance, though. I hear ya on the concert prices now. There's been a few I've missed just because I don't think anyone is worth the price some now charge. Ridiculous. |

Now when you talk about Hendrix, Janis (my fav) Doors etc...to much dope in those days to remember much of anything. We had a great place in Detroit called the Grande Ballroom and for a few bucks you could get in and see some great bands cheap and just smelling the air got you high. Then in the summer time we had outside concerts at a ski resort and could sit on the side of the hills..the higher up you were the highter you got from all the smoke drifting upwards...I didn't have a clue how famous some of these bands would get...it was just great music to dance around with. A Michigan group I loved was the Mc5...Up Against The Wall MFer's. Then we had some fabulous groups out of Ann Arbor..so it was a wonderful time. Grande Ballroom - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |

Ooohhhh I am jealous!!! :( I love the Beatles, just too many years too late! I tend to listen to the music before my time. The newer stuff is pretty much crap! |
Cindy, my first few shows were at Municipal Auditorium in New Orleans. It was a grand hall with 2 huge chandeliers hanging from the ceiling...they were at least 20 feet across. For concerts, they were lit in black lights. Once the house lights went up after a show, it was like a weather system had moved in with all the smoke. We would hit the French Quarter after that and hang out all night....get coffee and beignets....or ride the streetcar to the end of the line to a snowball stand. Thanks for the vid, Lissette. They look like a great party band. I love those kind of shows if they're at the right venue. Here's one back at'cha (for ladies only). These guys started out as a trippy Southern rock band and morphed into...well..see for yourself . The singer has been called the illegitimate father of David Lee Roth and Axl Rose. I had seen them before this era and they were one of my favorites. It got to be a little much once he started strutting around like a peacock, though. They still play a few small shows and I've had the chance to meet them all. They're all really nice guys but the drummer they have now will get you into trouble if you let him :p. |
God I love how some of these threads go...:p Well Jim, I am sure glad to see the lead singer was circumsized  and I will bet you he ripped those pants a ton of times...love it...!!!! I loved David Lee Roth so I am sure I would have loved this band but listing to this video I wonder..but I easily could get caught up in the action..haha Axle Rose tried to pickup my sister in law (at the airport) and she said "the guy certainly loved himself more than any woman in the world"..crack me up. Awwww the French Quarter...lots of craziness there. What fun you must have had. |
hahah....glad to see you have a sense of humor about it, Cindy. There's a vid on u-tube of them doing 'Halls of Karma' in the period before this. And, for some great jamming, especially by the drummer, check out 'Up'. These guys have all gotten older and I really like going to see them these days. Obviously, Jim Dandy doesn't parade around like he used to and it's just a great party show. Back in the day, the French Quarter was more of a freak zone than anything. The strip clubs and all were there but it was just a cool scene.....kinda what I imagine the San Francisco scene was in the 60's. You know, things move a little slower down here and we didn't get the 60's til about 1971. |

I never will forget the first time I went to the French Quarters (my parents had their honeymoon there) so what I expected what was not what I saw. Boy when some of the doors opened and I looked in...I went Holy Cow...(I didn't really say that but you get the idea)... Still would have been wonderful to wander in the Quarters after a concert. In Detroit you got the heck out as soon as everything was over...not the safest area. San Francisco is the late 60's was cool for a short while..I stayed with friends for a summer but lack of $$ made things start going sour.. |
