Everyday cleaning of wood or Bamboo flooring, what do you use?

My bf is putting down bamboo flooring and it is a little dark in color, he has two dogs that shed a lot and I notice their hair on it. If you have hard wood or bamboo floors what do you all use for every day cleaning?, I was looking at the Swiffer Vac, but was wondering if there was something else out the that is better. Thanks for any suggestions!!:)

My (late) husband had his own flooring biz and rather than 'sell' his customers something expensive he'd advise them to use a vinegar/water solution for wood flooring.

I also used it on our tile and granite insert floors - (along with a little windex for shine) ....

but for Bamboo and hardwood - try googling and see if there are better products as it's been a while and there may be something better - I never had bamboo...- just hardwood....the Swiffer Vac sounds like it would work very well from what I've heard

Vinegar is what I use for everyday cleaning - even on carpet (my little Cheri occasionally will miss the pad) .... I swear by it. I've had people tell me they can't ever tell I have 2 dogs let alone one that has the occasional accident but I'm a fanatic about my carpet...

Thanks Vee, I was looking for something for cleaning up dust/dog hair, so I may try the Swiffer vac, unless I get some more recs! I know that you can't get the bamboo very wet, just slightly damp I think, but I use vinager for lots of household cleaning, great stuff!

Just a plain old swiffer (no vac) will do the trick. Unfortunately, I think they have discontinued the replacement clothes for the swiffer max - a bigger version of the plain old swiffer. The smaller model is just fine, it just doesn't take as big of a swipe with one push. Nonetheless, it will swoop up all the dog hair, they are great. And yes, I have hard wood floors.

I have all hardwood floors through my house and just use a dry mop for hair issues and I spay a little Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner on it. Bona is a Swedish forumula that was recommended by the company that put my floors in and I really like especially when there is an accident on the floor...human or dog type..:D

I agree with RowdysMom, the plain old swiffer does an amazing job picking up pet hair from hardwood.I have 2 long haired cats & 3 dogs and feel like I live with a swiffer in my hand. I use it daily then I use the swiffer wet pads. :)

I use the regular swiffer dust mop and use Bona spray cleaner for weekly cleaning. You spray it on the floor and use a mop that has a washable terry cloth on it to go over where you spray. The Bona is awesome to clean hardwood. Would love to see picks of the flooring when done.

I'm in real estate and all the builders tell their buyers to use vinegar and water on hardwoods. Do you know the vinegar to water ratio?

Thanks!

I also recommend the Bona for cleaning. I have laminate but they make Bona for hardwood also. It's the ONLY way I've found that cleans the floors streak-free. As for the dog hair, I think a plain Swiffer would do the trick. I would have loved to have darker floors but am glad we went with a medium color just because living in the country is just asking for dirt inside to begin with. We don't have indoor "shedding dogs" but just the people hair and dirt and dust is bad enough. I actually have an Electrolux Ergorapido (Amazon.com: Electrolux Ergorapido Cordless...Amazon.com: Electrolux Ergorapido Cordless... ) that I use ALL the time to run through the house. And then the Rainbow gets used by the cleaning lady.

I'm going to pick up a Swiffer, we have the Wetjet one already, but never use it becasue the cloths dry out so quickly!. Thanks for the suggestions Everyone :)

Honestly, I wouldn't use the Swiffer Wetjet on the wood floors. I tried that when we first built the house and all I got was streaks, streaks, streaks! Ugh! Then I found the Bona and all has been great since then.

Yeah, it isn't great that's for sure. I'm going to get some of this Bona stuff soon!

I originally got the starter set that includes the mop thing (microfiber pad). I've seen now that they have a newer one that actually has the spray stuff attached to the stick so that you don't have to spray by hand separately. That looked pretty convenient. It's actually called "Bona X" I believe. And I recommend it to everyone that asks about cleaning wood floors. I wish I would have known about it sooner before wasting my money on other stuff.
