To the OP, I agree with most of the others on here that whatever you post (I haven't gone and searched for "the thread" that seems to be under discussion) you have to realize that people are going to respond to it in their own way. You have to have thick skin on this site. Just as there are many different personalities of friends, neighbors, and co-workers, there are MANY different personalities on this site. So many newbies get on here and ask for advice, and then run scared because others responded and told them what they really think (now granted, some members are more harsh than others, but that just comes with the territory!). Bottom line you're right on one thing, we're all here for the love of yorkies and we love to talk about them. If you feel you were mistreated in some way just roll with it, we live to fight another day. By the way, welcome to YT! There are many wonderful people on here with scads of information. :) |

I should have encomapssed the Rescue Angels, the wonderfully experienced pet owners, exhibitors, etc. in my post. The following is a generalized statement encompassing every single YT member - Speaking up is never the problem - it's how we phrase our replies that can be offensive. If we take the time to carefully phrase our replies in a way that isn't degrading to those who will be reading them, we are a lot more likely to get a positive result. Have you ever noticed that it's a lot easier to train a dog with a soft kind voice and a treat than with a harsh word and a jerk on the leash? |

So do I..... I was born and raised in Southern California, but lived in Texas for about 15 years......very different culture. However, being raised in the fifties in Southern California, it was different then. Family unit, manners, etc were still alive and well. There was certain rules on what was right and what was wrong. And by gosh you followed them, because you were sure your parents had eyes in the back of their heads.... |

And, no, I'm not poking fun at the South. Heck, if I was any more Southern, I'd be a fish!! :p |

LOL, y'all sound like you came from my neighborhood. It was just like that. And....you had better be in earshot if Mama hollered and you'd better be home by the time the street lights came on. |

Now, New Orleans is its own place. I've spent many memorable days and nights there and actually remember most of them. Love taking the streetcar down to Audubon Park. Also, lots of history in N.O. |

I visited New Orleans during Mardi Gras; now nothing shocks me, but boy did I receive an education, not sure it was one I wanted to learn. |

My brother is involved with a group that researches unmarked Confederate graves and has had good luck in getting stones placed on quite a few of them. In 2006, through his and others research, we were able to have stones dedicated to 4 of my uncles that lost their lives during the war. The stones were placed in a family cemetery and we had a big ceremony with SCV Honor Guards and a bugler blowing taps. Charleston, SC is another great Old South city. I was there several years ago when they buried the crew of the Hunley in Magnolia Cemetery. Thousands attended and it was a sight to see. Very dignified and somber. It wasn't a commemoration...it was a funeral as these bodies had been lost all those years. |

These pics are from Mobile. The Hunley funeral was much bigger but I didn't have a digital camera then so all my pics are on prints and not in my computer. |
I grew up in a big Italian family...things were always told me directly and bluntly. Yah..maybe it wasnt in a not so nice way..but yanno what? I learned!!! I didnt need someone to hold my hand or to be coddled. I guess thats why i LOVE YT so much..it reminds me of my own family. Yes sometimes things arent said so nicely...but I'm learning an ENORMOUS amount of information just being here. And the way i see it....people are looking out for the welfare of my baby. It means they care. Also, i never was jumped on when i was a newbie. Maybe its cause i spent sometime with my typing mouth shut and actually listened to what was being typed on the screen. I think a lot of people come on here thinking they are automatic experts cause they now own a yorkie. Just cause you have a kid, doesnt make you a good mother. It takes time and patience and sometimes you just have to listen. |
