I learned a good lesson tonite I will NEVER put laundry in the dryer before I go to bed again. I put a load of laundry in the dryer then got sidetracked before I went to bed. It was the matter a few minutes before I got a strong smell of smoke, I screamed to my kids 18,16,13 and 1 year grand baby "FIRE get the baby, furbabies and get out" I was shuting off the dryer, and fan I have in my laundry room as I was calling 911. The fire department was here quick(for such a small town) It turned out to be electrical in my dryer (strange since it is a newer one:rolleyes:) The actual fire stayed contained to the inside of the dryer. (the house still smells bad) But everyone is ok. I have learned a huge lesson, If I would have went to bed it could have been horrible. The laundry room is 3 floors down from my bedroom and I don't know how soon I would have noticed the smell. My kids rooms are right next to the laundry(scarry) I will Never go to bed after starting my dryer. I don't have one now:rolleyes: but when I get another I have learned a huge lesson. I hope someone can learn from this experience. Don't make the same mistake I did and not even realize the dangers. |
How scary!!! One of my biggest fears a house fire. My niece just went through a fire last week. Luckily she was at work, but she lost everything and hers was related to faulty wiring. I am so thankful your fire dept was quick to respond and that you hadn't went to bed. You had a guardian angel watching over you and your family. |

Oh i am so sorry this happened to you & so glad no one was hurt. hopefully your dryer will be replaced since it is new |
WOW.....Good thing you were still awake and smelled the smoke - that's very very scary.....you never know when something will go wrong with appliances so your post is a good warning to others Glad you're all ok - I bet you're still shaken up - I know I would be |
Thank goodness you all were safe and the fire was contained!! This is a good lesson because so many people do start dishwashers and washer/dryers and leave the house or go to bed and really never think about it! I hope the store and/or manufacturer will replace your dryer since it was newer! I wonder if there was any kind of recall on it?? We had someone in a town next to us who left their home with the dishwasher running a few years ago. The house was only a couple of years old and it caught fire. The whole house burned down and their pets were killed. So sad! |
Thank you for sharing this. A good lesson for us all. I thought you were going to say.. you smelled smoke, opened the dryer and your furbaby was inside . Wheeeew |

Thank goodness you and your family are allright! How scary is that? Especially for the kids and the pups ! Luckily, I have a firefighter next door, so he has warned me never to leave the dryer on. He always tries to make sure all of us are aware of what starts home fires. |

When I was younger I used to leave the house with the dryer running. I know better now. We never leave the house while it's going now. Thank goodness you caught the problem before it became a tragedy! |
I always pay attention to the dryer. I would never go to bed or leave the house with the dryer running. Years ago my neighbor went to work with her dryer running and her 10 year old daughter alone home sick from school. The little girl comes running to my house saying there was smoke in the house and the fire alarms were blaring. I called the fire dept. and ran outside. The house was an old 100 year plus farmhouse. I looked at the house and it seemed like it was breathing. The walls were expanding and retracting. All of a sudden windows started exploding and the fire jumped to the outside of the house and the whole house was consumed in flames. The house burnt to the ground with their pets still inside. We just thanked god the little girl was able to get out. That happened about 30 years ago but I have never forgotten that a dryer caused so much destruction. |
Note to self: only do drying while home & awake! Thank you & I'm glad to know you're all safe & sound!;) |
