Lets talk Prom My niece is a jr this year. I dont think she is going to her prom but just going to her boyfriends SR prom at a different school. I am calling the school to get the lowdown tomorrow but he says the tickets are either 125 or 150 each. WTH?? Are you KIDDING me??? This does NOT include a dinner. How do the kids do it? Good gravy. Thats ridiculous. We got a head start on prom dress shopping since its May 8th and I think we have a winner. She wanted long and flowy. I will post a link soon. I really liked the short and flirty but she cant do heels due to her JRA and ankles. Anyhoo... any of your kids going to prom? |

I like the orange dress. |
I like all 3 of the black or black and white ones and yes, the orange one looks really pretty with her coloring as well. She's a very pretty girl. |
She looks great in all of them but I liked the orange one but since she doesn't do puffy her favorite would be my choice too. |
That black one that she likes looks great on her. I like that one. My daughter's prom was last year and the tickets were $75. That was in a fancy hall with a buffet dinner. She had a great time. That price they are asking is outrageous. I would also be upset. |
Well, I've been through a couple proms with my daughter (graduated 2007) and now, my son is going to his Jr. Prom in May, the tickets are USUALLY $125 or $150 per couple, not person . . .that seems off . . .and way too expensive. Oh, I think the blue one looks really good on her. |

Thanks, me too. Too bad she doesnt do puffy  Its crazy, how do they expect kids to pay for these? Or even their parents these days. |
2 Attachment(s) Prom is a huge deal around here. There was a newspaper article that estimated the average girl spent around 800.00 on their Jr/Sr. prom each year. My youngest daughter will be attending her last Prom this year as a Sr. Although we don't spend quite that much, it is very expensive. It is always a time of great bonding for us, but I will admit, I will be glad when I don't have to fork out the money for Prom next year. I don't know how much our tickets are as the guy usually buys them. It seems they are between $50 to $60 per ticket. A couple of the dresses your daughter tried on reminds me of my daughter's dress from last year (in the pink picture below). This year, she is going short . I have no idea how this will turn out, but she is barely 5' so I think she can pull it off, and she wants to accessorize with fun shoes. The black dress is her dress for this year only it has a hot pink flower instead of black. Your niece is beautiful and I love the black dress on her too. |
My "kid" is going to prom this year as she is a junior. We drove to Baton Rouge the weekend before last to pick up dog food and spent the whole day shopping for a prom dress. Jenn is so indecisive though so she hasn't picked one yet but she looked beautiful in several of them. We are gonna go again this weekend and hopefully find THE ONE! |
Aww your neice is beautiful! I like either the blue or orange dress, as it reminds me of my wedding gown! That seems a little pricy for prom, and no dinner? I graduated 10 years ago this year (aggghhh!!) and my prom was around $50... gotta love inflation lol! I think she should go to both though, especially if they're at different schools, she can get away with wearing the same dress twice! |
My daughter is going this year.. we still haven't found a dress. |
Wow! I had my Sr. prom 2 years ago and our tickets per couple were $75 & that included the not so great dinner. :p And they had the prom off campus at a "ballroom". |
2 Attachment(s) Are any of my kids going? No, lol :p but I went to prom last year! :) Those ticket prices do seem a bit high, as it was only $200/couple for me. Where are they planning on holding the prom? At the school? If so, then those prices are outrageous! My prom was at Union Station (in Kansas City) and the set up was beautiful. There was a huge dance floor, great dj, and they did not provide dinner either, but there were a ton of desserts. I noticed that Cha Cha mentioned that the average junior or senior spends about $800 on prom, and I think that is probably true. There are so many things to consider. You have to pay for the tickets themselves, hair, makeup, and nails (which costs even more if you have it done professionally), the dress, shoes, dinner, pictures, and there are probably more things that I'm forgetting! In some ways I think it is kind of a waste of money. All of this for a dance!? I had to save up for months! My mom really pushed me to go because she didn't go to hers, and she really regretted missing it. In the end, I think it was worth it because I had a wonderful time. I will share some pics just because..:) Attachment 311172 Attachment 311173 (I didn't get any professional pics, so that saved me some money! :D) By the way, I really like the 3rd dress in your set of pics. I think she looks beautiful! :) |
3 Attachment(s) OMG I love the orange dress on your niece!!! Which one did she pick? I can't believe those prices! Our's is $25.00 each and they rent a big ball room at a local hotel. My daughter and I spend the whole day getting final accessories for her prom today. My daughter picked a crazy patterned dress, but it was what she wanted so I hope she has fun! Here's a few pictures...she said I could share LOL |
