If you have long hair, I need your help... I need a new shampoo. I've had long hair most of my life and it use to be gorgeous. Super straight, never tangled, very dark and silky. My mom loved brushing my hair because it was so pretty. (my dad did too, shh!! don't tell him I shared!) Alas, genetics has caught up with me. My mom said her hair went through a transformation as she got older. She showed me a picture of her when she turned 15 and it was so pretty! now her hair is curly and dry and now my hair is following suit. I would like to try anything to help breathe life back into my hair. I'm thinking of chopping it off to get rid of all the split ends. Any remedies? Or should I just cut my hair short? |
As much I want to believe the advertising that shampoos will change your hair, I just know they don't. I buy anything that says "volume" or "thickening" and my hair is always the same. You just can't beat genetics. If your mom already warned you of what's to come, I say just embrace it don't try to fight it. I hate my hair. One of my bff's is the same. When we were in HS she had so much hair and nice and thick, and now it's thin and not a lot. |
I always thought you should have split ends removed ever month or so even if you were growing your hair out. There are protects that seal the split ends, and I find different products work at different times of the year. Dry winter air can be hard on hair. Diet is important, but genetics are the biggest factor for healthy hair. It's interesting that your hair type changed so much have you started doing anything new. Coloring hair, sun, swimming in chlorinated water, and blow-drying all can be very drying on hair. I think finding the right conditioner is even more important than a good shampoo. I also love some of the products that help protect from heat. Some of the newer straightening irons, and electric rollers, can make hair look healthier after use. I've also heard some great things about products that just add semi-permanent shine. Cutting your hair short will just make it curlier. :D |
I wouldn't mind if it would just curl already. My mom has these cute curls. My hair is in transition and since it doesn't curl, or wave, or anything nice I straighten it. I look like a lion if I don't! Now it's crunchy beyond belief at the ends even right after a trim. (they take at least 2 in off) I just want nice hair again.... :( |

So... what are those conditioners you like? I'll try them!!! |
try herbal essence or dove shampoos and conditioners. herbal the tousled type works really well my hair turned really curly at puberty but was straight and thick until then then it got really curly and thin :thumbdown but it's okay if I change things up every once and a while I'll go for the curly shampoo to the tousled shampoo and alternate it every once in a while to give my hair some much needed change and hydration. the dove hydrates really well but the herbal essence makes my hair look great. good luck!!!!!! |

There's a product made by Enjoy....it is hair and skin oil.....I know.....Oil, Yikes!, but trust me, just put a dime size amount in the palm of your hand and pass thru wet hair. The stuff is like a miracle. Detangles, smells wonderful, and not one bit of oily residue. I have curly fuzzy hair (my whole life) and this stuff is amazing. Good luck! K. |

Why didn't you like it? |
it doesn't do anything. doesn't make my hair look or feel thicker, don't like the smell, I dunno just think it sux. I'm very scientific aren't i? Before when I could afford it I really liked Amplify. Made my hair full-er. too expensive tho |
As I read your posts, I was thinking. Gosh, is she describing my hair? . My hair doesn't know if it wants to be curly or straight. I keep it long. It does have a bit of wave in it, but since it's thick it weighs the curls down. If I don't straighten it fouffs out. lol. I cut it once, short, short. It was awesome, easy to manage, not frizzy, Only thing is, it went super curly. Because there wasn't any weight holding it down. I haven't found a shampoo and conditioner that I love yet. I'll keep an eye on this thread and your search for a good shampoo and conditioner, maybe I can try some of the suggestions as well. |
I don't have long hair, actually mine is short and thin but I read this anyway. When my hair is feeling and looking dry, I use Aussie 3 minute miracle. In fact I usually use it every week end. It does wonders for my hair. I really love Aussie products. |
You might want to try Garnier Fructis' Sleek and Shine products. I love those products. FOR HAIR THAT SHINES WITH ALL ITS STRENGTH - Garnier |
