Outraged Mother Here!!!!!
 

Ok I took a deep breath, read a few threads and and have calmed down some.

My oldest daughter is a big fan of myspace. She is as addicted as I am on here. Anyways,,,,, someone sent a message commenting on her profile and asked why is it that she has 2 profiles. She answered to this comment to find out what this person was talking about. It turns out that someone copied and pasted all her pictures and was claiming to be her in a very bad way. So my daughter was trying to get to the bottom of it and wanted to know who this person was. She was thinking that it could have been one of her frineds messing with her. So she sends a message to this person. The responds that she got was not at all what she was thinking. This person went on about how HE got off by impersonating her. He went on and on. It was really sick and scarry with the things he wrote. When she got to the part I go to your school,,,,,, and I can't even repeat the rest of what he wrote. She started to cry. To make matters worse, he kept sending her sick messages. She was scared becasue this person seems to know alot about her. I told her to make a bulletin about this person and copy and paist what he had been sending her so that people will know. Well they deleted the profile that night. But not before he sent 3 more ugly messages which she found this morning.

Ok here where it gets really bad! My daughter is scared out of her mind and is worried about this person really being someone at her school. So I go to school with her and have a talk to one of the security guy in front of the school. I told him what was going on and that I wanted to talk to someone and make a report of this. He pretty much told me that there was nothing anyone can do about it and it was probably some old man getting off. And if I were so worried about it,,, don't let her be on the internet so that these old pigs would not bother her.

I could not believe this person told me this. I just walked away got to my car and wanted to cry. He had me thinking I was the bad parent. So the more I was crying the more pissed I was getting and told myself HELL NO!!! I came home and got on the phone and talked to the principal. I told her what had happened and what the security guy told me. She was outraged herself. She told me to print out a copy of everything this person sent her and to go to the police and make a report there. I then made a call to the police department and they told me the same thing. They can and will find out who this person is. And if it is someone at the school, both the school and police department will take action. As for the stupid so called security guy, well we will see how long he has his job after I get ahold of him!

My daughter is a straight A student and is a very good girl. I am very proud of her and feel so outraged that this pompous ass made me feel like a bad parent.

There are alot of sicko's on the net....My neighbor is going thru the same thing. Someone took a pic, her e-mail addy and yahoo ID and posted it in the Yahoo personals under women seeking women and she is married. She has been getting all kinds of instant messages and e-mails from some very weird people. I feel so bad for your daughter, it is scary just how much info someone can steal from you. I hope that the police can catch this person and put a stop to your daughters fears. Good luck.

[Omg....thats awful...you have every right to be outraged. I'm very glad its being handled....they just did an article in Time Magazine on this very problem...so sorry this happened...

I don't know the exact circumstances, but at the very least...this is a case of harassment and defamation of character. Both of these offenses can be tried in a court of law. Seems like there is some other possible lewd conduct per what you're saying.

Anyways, get a lawyer. Have your lawyer contact the owners of Myspace for information regarding this individual (maybe they can track down an IP address or link this individual to another Myspace account).

I wouldn't have Myspace shut down that profile just yet, as these are serious charges. I would first attempt to track this individual down. This will help identify whether this individual is local (at your daughter's school) or far away.

If local, then I would pursue charges.
If far away, just shut the profile down.

We don't know for sure, but maybe this is an individual that had a run in w/ your daughter and is upset???

Wow i'd be outraged as well if i was a mother. I'm on myspace and have gotten sick comments/messages by complete psycho's.

It's really sad to see that there are so many sick and estranged people out there that are preying on kids/women etc.

There was a bulletin on myspace about a girl who was killed from a guy she met on Myspace. so please be careful.

Schools have to provide a safe environment for your child. They have to make REASONABLE attempts to protect your child.

With that said, the security guard is right in the sense that there is really nothing that he can do. What do you expect? For him to begin searching lockers and interrogating students randomly?

He wasn't right to comment about your child's internet activity.

He should've reported the situation to the principal and then...they can discuss and document the situation.

Without something for them to go on, like a real name or anything, your school's principal and security can only document the situation. And I don't think your daughter would appreciate it if the school started interrogating everyone that she associates with. That would be embarrassing for her.

So wait until Myspace gets back to your lawyer w/ some info. That is all that can be done.

Yes we took the steps to have the profile deleted. It's gone. Now we are going to make a report with the local police department. They will work on getting the IP address and take it from there. We do plan on seeing this matter through and do what we have to stop this sick person.

I can't say it's not someone that doesn't like her,,, you know how these kids can be. Jealousy, revenge for what ever reason,,, or maybe she did piss off the wrong person. I just don't know. These days people get upset if you look at them a way they don't like. We were at the route 66 car show and her and her friend were watching the kids going down the slid. They were laughing and pointing at Cherish going down and these girls thought they were pointing laughing at them. My husband seen what was happining and chased them away by threating to call a cop. These kids are so ready to jump the gun without a thought.

My daughter is very motherly. She is the one who takes in the kids who are new or picked on. She is well liked at school and has lots of friends. I just don't understand why someone would do this to her. But we will get to the bottom of it thats for sure!

That's horrible to hear what happened to you & your daugther. There are lots of sickos online. Hopefully they police can help track down this person.

I know that there is nothing he could have done but he could have pointed me in the right diretion and not let me walk away making me feel like a bad parent.

And as far as locker issue,,,,, I was upset when they took out lockers from most California schools. But now I am greatfull with the way kids are now you never know what you will find! It's bad enough we have to worry about our children while at school. Random locker checks are no longer an issue here. Thank goodness!

I am so sorry to hear this... Hopefully he left enough incriminating evidence in his letters you will be able to get to the bottom of who is responsible. What a invasion of privacy. I don't care if we are on the internet or not it gives NO ONE the right to do this. It is a "INJUSTICE" not matter how you look at it !!!! :( To prey on young teenage girls... :mad: You done the right things to protect your daughter!!!! I am so glad you didn't stop with the security guard!!!

I agree that the security guard couldn't do much and that being the case he should have sent you to the office immediately and not voiced his opinion about your daughters internet activity! I am so glad you are persuing this...you are a good mom..as shown by your support of your daughter in a very uncomfortable situation!!! It probably is some little snot at her school doing what he thinks of as a funny prank...somehow I think when the cops talk to him about it it won't be so funny anymore! Whoever it is needs a good slap!

Ok, I took a well needed trip to the park to have some fun with Cherish and Gus. Now I'm off to pick up my daughter and take care of Biz. Wish us luck!

Ok we made a report with the local police department. They gave us a case # and are looking into it. As far as the school goes, there is nothing they can do till they know for sure it is really someone who goes there. We were able to track down this persons ISP and IP address. (code that is) So we sent a e-mail to verizon (the ISP he used to have the myspace account) with all the information we had found along with an attachment of the messages that the person sent my daughter. So with a little luck we will find out who this sick person is. Mean while the profile is now deleted. We don't know if it was because my duaghter reported it or he did it on his own because we were on to him. What ever the case is,,, we will press charges if and when they do find this person.

There was a parent that found out about xanga.com and how much info some people (including her daughter) have up in the blog. She was concerned about possible sexual predators getting these infos and reported this to the school. The school in turn sent out memos to all parents to talk to their kids about the danger of posting private infos online.--- I hope the school your daughter is attending would have the initiative to do the same thing. This would warn other students and parents as well.

I'm not sure if KVUEnews covered this story or Fox7 did.

I tried looking for the article/story about this and found several more from other publications with the same concerns. If the school needs a lil push to send out memos, you might want to redirect them to these sites.

I can understand what you're both going through. My daughter was stalked by an internet predator, and we had to get the police involved too. They caught him, and he went to jail. He was 25, and my daughter was only 14 at the time. It was a nightmare.

The IP address...may not be for that person at all.

A lot of times, IP addresses are recycled. And not everyone has a fixed IP address. So you may or may not have the right person if you manage to track down the address.

Just thought I would add this info not to discourage you, but is truthful info...

Thanks pixiepooh for the info. Yes my daughters school passed out a memo not too long ago. And they are willing to do what it takes to help out in this matter.

As far as the IP address,,, I don't know all that much about that, but the police said it would help if we can get that info for them. Usefull or not, I do not know. We will find out more later. Hopefully very soon. The detective said that he is working a few cases at this time and will get to this one asap. He said to be watchful, beware of strangers, and friends for that matter. He also said it could be some kid trying to scare her. But it's good to put it on record.

Wow I am so sorry to hear about that. Its so scary all the psychos that like to jack with people onthe internet. It ticks me off. I hope they catch the person behind it. Way to go for calling the principle and the filing a report! So far it sounds llike you are an AWESOME parent to me :) .
