You guys are the best - thank you all for your input!! I spent a couple of hours playing around on my new Macbook Air and I'm really liking it! :)

i had thought about getting the air for the weight but couldn't justify the price...hehe

Definitely the Mac Book Pro...save your money...well worth the wait!
I think the 13" is $999.00 and there are no "deals" on them.
If ever, usually around Christmas and maybe 10% off, from Apple.

I made up my mind also and am going for it too.
After talking with my SIL, computer person, he has assured me
since I am a dunce with computer's this is what I need so

I know - the Air wasn't even on my radar because of the price. :eek: But I was so fortunate to find this one that's less than a year old, has a Superdrive and lost of other accessories, is already loaded with programs I want and it still has about 2 years left on the AppleCare warranty - all for less than half of what the laptop alone cost new a few months ago. And everything is in PERFECT condition - I truly can't tell that it's ever even been used. I am just so pleased with the bargain I got!! :D I usually miss out on all the really good deals. :p (You can't see it but I'm doing the happy dance right now :D).

Thank you, Carol!! Your posts were a big part of why I wanted to go with a Mac. Having local help and support available is a huge plus for me, and the people at my Apple Store have already been so nice and helpful. I really think you're going to like it - I had never even seen an Apple screen before yesterday and I was boogying around on it after just an hour or so last night. There is going to be a learning curve after using Windows for so many years, but I don't think it will be too bad at all.

I can't wait until you get yours - we can learn together!! :D

I'm having so much fun on this new laptop!! :D Sorry, just had to share that. :p

I found out earlier today that the local Apple Stores have free classes for the public in different subjects and software. So, I enrolled in 2 they have coming up in the next several days - the Getting Started Workshop (learn how to use a Mac) & the Ultimate Upgrade: Switching to a Mac from Windows.

Ok I know you're getting sick of me talking about this but I am having a blast!! :rolleyes:

I know you wrote that you have signed up for classes -- another great resource is "The Missing Manual" available at Amazon -- there are versions for OS X Leopard and Snow Leopard, depending on which one you have. The books contains all of the essentials as well as advanced tips and tricks. Best of all, the book is the best written, well-arranged computer book I have ever read.

Yep, my new camera was shipped out yesterday! :D I never buy things like this so I was waaaaay behind techology. I finally decided I was tired of 'making do', so guess where my tax refund went? Now, I'm happily broke again. ;)

Yes, yes!!! That's exactly how I felt! :D I have a perfectly good Dell desktop, but I NEEDED a laptop. :p I'm so glad someone understands.

LOL that's where mine's going as well, hence the two week wait.
I was going for the 15" screen but the 17" one is awsome but so
is the price! I am trying to talk myself in for just going for it but
having a hard time with the price difference. Still trying to talk myself
into it tho.:( I"ll probably win.:p Yes, I have been to one class already,
even without the computer and I so look forward to knowing there
is help when I need it and believe me I'm going to need it.

I'll probably be getting on more in the evenings, too. I never even got internet service when I moved into my house a couple of years ago because I knew I wouldn't use it with my desktop. I'm trying to promise myself that I won't get online too much in the evenings - I did last night and my babies weren't happy with me at all. :p

Actually the class was a little bit above me regarding the technocalities
of how the apple works. What can be hooked up, what's compatable
with it, windows 7 etc, so it was not quite what I had hoped for.
However, it is really nice that they offer these classes to the public.
I wanted to see exactally how and what is in the system but you need
to purchase one before they allow you to get that info. That's ok because
it's something to look forward to and I am really excited about it.

I wonder if this is one of the classes I'm signed up for. This is all info I want to know - but I'd like to learn more of the basics of getting around and how to use it first.

I asked my local store about signing up for the annual one-on-one sessions for $99 like you mentioned, but they said I had to buy the computer from them to be eligible for those classes. Hopefully, the free ones and tips from helpful friends (hint, hint) will get me what I need to know. :)

I'm so excited for you!! Two weeks isn't far at all - but I know it'll feel like forever.

That's a deal! Well, the passing along to me part....I'm not so sure about being able to explain it back again. :p I've managed to boot mine up and get online for two nights in a row, so I've pretty much mastered most of what I want to do with mine. :D

Just kidding! But I really do need to start of list of questions - there's so much basic stuff that I have absolutely no idea how to do on the Mac. For example, for those Mac geniuses out there, how do you make the internet window bigger to fit the full screen like mine does in Windows? And I was sending a long pm last night that I wanted to copy first (I'd already lost it once)...but I have no idea how to copy on the Mac (it's just Control+C in Windows). Can anyone help?? :)

On the top left next to the "close" circle, you have minimize and maximize circles also. Is that what you mean? Otherwise, go to the bottom right of the screen, put the cursor on the corner and drag it to make the screen larger.

Here is how to copy and paste:

"Command" is used as "Control."
Right clicking should also work though.:confused:

Thanks Crystal! I'm printing out the copy & paste steps now. I'm just using the touchpad on the laptop, so I'm not sure I can right click doing it this way (that's how I usually copy/paste in Windows with my mouse).

The minimize and maximize circles are the first thing I tried, but they only enlarge or reduce the screen a little bit - I can't get the internet window to fill the screen. I also thought of dragging the edge of the window to enlarge it, but I haven't learned how to click and drag with the touchpad yet. That's something I'm going to google right now.

Yeah, coping with the touchpad is kinda interesting. It doesn't always work for me. I don't think I have the technique down though.

Clicking and dragging with the touchpad is easy.
If you don't want to do it one handed, just click where you need to and hold the button down with one hand and move your finger over the actual pad in the direction that you want the screen to expand...

Ok I found it. I guess a lot of people googled this same question. There's a download on Apple's website called Safari Stretch 2.0 that will stretch the window to fill the screen. :) That's the first thing I'm going to do when I get home tonight.

Ok, that sounds easy enough. I'll let you know how it goes when I try it tonight. I googled about enlarging the window and found an Apple download, but also some replies saying to click and drag the diagonal bars in the lower right corner of the window. I don't remember seeing those, but I'm going to try that first before I download anything.

I've been having too much fun playing on the internet in the evenings that I haven't even tried to do anything else yet. I can't imagine the questions I'll have then! :rolleyes:

I can't think of anything that you would need to download. It's at the bottom right.

I just can't picture the screen in my mind but I don't remember any diagonal bars, or anything at all in the lower right corner. I get off work in about 45 minutes, so I'll check as soon as I get home.

To make the window fit the screen is the same as in Windows -- pulling the bottom right corner, as Ellie Mae wrote.

Get "The Missing Manual" asap -- you will love it.
