Completely different operating systems.

Any comparisons would be remote and superficial. For instance, the ability to have multiple programs open and have the "windows" snap to a workable arrangement on the screen. Something that doesn't really get me excited on either my MAC or PC.

Macs are almost completely immune to malicious attacks. You don't need anti-virus software. If a Mac is compromised, it is almost always because the user opened the door. Hence, it is advisable to create an "administrator account" and then run a "user account" so that nothing is ever downloaded or installed without permission first.

If you run Windows on a Mac using bootcamp, the Windows programs will be susceptible to all of the problems of a PC. The other option is running Microsoft programs made for Mac. I admit that I use MS Word and Entourage mail for Mac.

Also, if you use PaintShop, there is no Mac version.

I recently thought of upgrading my Toshiba laptop when I saw Best Buy had an amazing online sale on a Toshiba that had one of the new processors that is supposed to be better than Pentium for many apps. They were selling for $450. Unfortunately, I blinked and they sold out. :rolleyes:

A MacBook would be perfect for you!! I have the higher end MacBook and have used it for years! I would never go back to a PC again.

I just have the standard, less expensive one and it's great! I mainly use it for internet, pictures. Well I am taking online classes now and it's wonderful!

If you haven't done so already, go to an Apple store or a Best Buy with an Apple representative and have them give you a tour of Mac.

My experience and all of the stories I have ever heard/read is that Apple reps employ zero pressure. They simply demonstrate their products.

Playing with a Mac might help you make your choice.

I called the local Apple store this weekend and was so impressed with the salesman. He spent a loooong time talking to me and answering my questions, and he knew so much. He was absolutely no pressure, and he said they do not sell on commision so there was no pressure there. I am planning to go to Best Buy at lunch today just to take a look at them (Best Buy's closer to the office), but I would prefer to buy at the Apple Store and the kind of support and service Carol mentioned.

I found a Macbook on the local Craigslist this morning that is exactly what I want: it's less than a year old, already loaded with programs I want and with 2 years left on the AppleCare warranty - all for a price I like!! I emailed them about it hours ago and haven't heard anything. This would be so perfect for me - I really hope someone else hasn't bought it already.

I finally heard back on this laptop. They still have it and were even willing to come down another couple hundred $$ on the price. I asked a few people here at work that know about this stuff what they thought and they all said if I decided not to take it to let them know & they would take it for such a great price. So I feel like I'm getting a good deal. I'm supposed to pick it up in about 1.5 hours!! :D

i just got a new laptop 2 weeks ago. ive always had a windows computer but got a 15 inch macbook pro this time. I LOVE IT!!!! i was used to it in a day. i STRONGLY recommend the macbook pro!

Does anyone have the Macbook Air?
I love my Macbook and I've had it almost two years. I was thinking next time about getting the Air because it's lighter! I considered it when I bought mine, but couldn't really justify the price.
Now, I sit with it on my lap so often, I'm always thinking it would be nice to have it weigh a little less!
