Iran: Rocket With Animals Sent Into Space Iran: Rocket With Animals Sent Into Space Iran says it sent a research rocket carrying live animals into space Wednesday, prompting President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to hail the country's scientific achievements as "miraculous." Iran's state-run Press TV said the rocket contained a rat, two turtles and worms. Mr. Ahmadinejad said the research project is "mostly on the very edge of modern technology." He also said Tehran is working to achieve scientific progress, not military confrontation. Iran says the launch involved a Kavoshgar (Explorer) 3 missile, which is capable of carrying satellites. Mr. Ahmadinejad also unveiled a domestically-built satellite booster rocket named Simorgh and three new satellites. Tehran's ambitious space program has worried Western countries. They fear the same technology used to launch satellites could also launch nuclear warheads. The president's announcement came as the country celebrated National Space Day. The day is part of the celebrations leading up to the anniversary of Iran's Islamic Revolution next week. |
What is the purpose of sending live animals into space    ...bastards :thumbdown |
They need to blast up some cockroaches..... I heard they can survive anything - let's see them prove it :p |
The U.S. sent a chimpanzee during the early NASA days, and Russia sent up several dogs. As I grow older, I have less and less tolerance for using animals for dangerous purposes. They are innocent, and deserve our protection. I know not everyone will agree with me, and that's OK. It is just the way I feel. |

little suckas here in texas - the outside ones are fully equipped with engines... They really don't need a rocket mitchell - didn't mean to hijack your thread....I just couldn't help it :) |
Okay, this is really morbid, but the thought makes me happy because I *loathe* cockroaches.... I read an article that said if for some reason the human race was wiped out, most cockroaches would die right along with us - roaches are from Africa and they need warmth! The reason they've spread so well is because cities generate so much heat. So cockroaches *won't* outlast us. Take that, bugs of evil! |
