Traveling to TN...need advice Me and my family (including the furbabies) are planning a trip in February to TN. We've narrowed down our search to Sugar Maple Cabins. Does anyone have experience with these cabins or any input regarding the weather, etc. We are driving from Florida Thanks from Me & Max |
Dress Warm! Its been very COLD here, hope it has warmed up some by Feb! |
Gatlingburg and Pigeon Forge can be cold in Feb as SassyAnn101 sd. Most of our cold is in Jan and Feb. I am not familar with those cabins. Make sure you have 4 wheel drive cause the mountains could still be snowy around that time. |
We'll rent a 4WD. We were hoping to drive a mini van most of the way (6 of us and 3 dogs) and then swap to a 4WD once we get there. Anyone familiar with which rental companies are close to or in Pigeon Forge? We've been in the 30s and 40s here in Orlando this past week with temps going into the 20s and teens tonight. We actually had snow flurries and some sleet this morning. Hopefully with the proper attire we'll be ok. |
Although we live near the Ga - Tn line in north Georgia, February anywhere in Tennessee can be very cold and snowy or it can be warm enough for shorts and a short sleeve shirt. This year has started out being very cold with snow and sleet and icy roads. While it will be cold enough for a coat, you will probably do best by layering your clothes so that you can adjust for the various weathers. We (all of Tenn) usually get their yearly snows in Feb. and March. The last blizzard we had was in l993 when we had l0 inches here in north Ga. If you are into snow skiing you will be here at a great time of the year. Two of the large rent a car places : Avis and Enterprise are probably both available in the Smokies. Have a safe trip. Relax and enjoy the furbabies while visiting a beautiful part of the state of Tennessee. |
The temperature here this week has been down to a low of l4 and a high of 32 degrees. We had snow, sleet, and icy with schools cancelled. The part of Tenn you will be going to gets a whole lot more snow and icy than we do. Be prepared. Changing your SUV for a 4 wheel drive sounds like a good plan. Relax and enjoy winter in the Smokies. It is a beautiful part of our state of Tennessee. |
Thank you so much for your info. We won't be skiing but will probably take the kids to Ober one of the days. We're going mostly for the experience and the beautiful views. They kids have never seen snow either. |
I hope driving through Cade's Cove is part of your plans. It is really beautiful and you usually see an abundance of wild life too! |
Yes, we are going to Cades Cove..thanks everyone for your suggestions. |
PLEASE be careful in the snow & ice. As a "professional" driver I see cars & semi trucks every day turned around in a median or on the side of the road & those are the lucky ones. Ramps & bridges are the worst! So many people want to drive the same way they can in clear conditions. Have fun on your trip! Be safe & ;) look for a yellow semi pulling an orange Schneider trailer. |
I say save the cabin for the spring and come visit Nashville instead :) ******that's where I live*********** :D |

and being as I have lived in Oregon where it snows like CRAZY, I can tell you chains are helpful, and they sell snow tires. dont think you will need all that tho. even if you have the 4wd, it might be a good idea to keep snow chains in the car just in case. |
We have ice skated at Ober before........ great time!!!! |
Don't forget the sweaters and coats for the dogs, too! (Shelby & Seymour wear flannel pajamas by gofetch in the winter time.... they are great for day and night!) |
