Anyone know of anyone who works at Nordstrom? I know they most of the time have a "no questions asked" return policy. Me and my bf bought his mom a Coach bag maybe 2 xmases ago, she never used it, got mad that we spent that much on her. Anyway, we bought it at the Coach store, but used Visa gift cards to buy it. They will not give back money on the cards, only Coach credit. To me that doesn't make sense, b/c visa gift cards can be used anywhere, and a return you should get back the same currency right? But the Coach credit will only be used at the Coach store, which I don't want. So my question is, since they sell Coach at Nordstrom, can I return it there and can they give me cash? I have returned stuff to them before that I did not buy there (but they do carry it) but never waited this long. Anyone have any insight? Or should I just cut my losses and try to sell it for cheaper on craigslist? It's the large black carly signature if anyone's familiar. |
I'd say you're probably going to be better off with CL or maybe eBay. Since you don't have a receipt, if Nordstrom's does take it back it'll just be at whatever the price is today for that bag so if it's been on sale or something you might not get your original purchase price back. A lot of retailers do store credits or exchanges only on returns, especially returns that don't have the original store receipts, to keep people from picking up something at a garage sale or online for pennies on the dollar (or shoplifting something) and then returning it to the store for full price. I worked for Wal-Mart a few years back and we had to start doing that on tools. People would buy a broken tape measure at a garage sale and since Stanley has a lifetime warranty, they'd bring it back to Wal-Mart and say they'd broken it and we'd just issue a refund. We stopped giving cash refunds on tools and started doing WM gift cards. |
Well I do have the receipt, it's just a coach receipt though. I'd much rather get a Nordstrom store credit, as I can use it towards makeup, etc, but I don't want anything at coach. So that's my question to anyone who works at Nordstrom, would i be able to get my full paid price in credit if I can't get cash? |
You bought it 2 years ago and are just now wanting the money back  if that is the case I think your lucky that they will even give you store credit. I understand your point about it being a Visa gift card, but the purchase was 2 years ago, why did you wait so long :D |
b/c it was given to my bf's mom and she just barely gave it back to me again. The first time it was the same season, but coach would only give me coach credit, which I didn't want. I didn't think to ask Nordstrom before. We thought we were doing something nice for her b/c she never in her life had a nice bag. Instead she got mad at us for spending so much. :( I feel like since we gave it to her, if she didn't want it, she should have to exchange it or whatever, but now after so long, i have to do it. |

Nah, I never like to get aggressive with the clerks, b/c I know how it feels. I hate when people try to bully me to try to get their way. makes me less likely to help them out when they are like that to me. I'm just thinking hopefully since it's after xmas there's lots of returns and maybe someone didn't "know" it is a 2 yr old style and bring it back? ergh, I hate doing stuff like this. I usually never return, I don't buy in the first place unless I know I am going to keep it. Oh another think I remembered, when I returned something at target that I used a visa gift card, they gave me back cash! It was a rebate card from at&t and they said b/c it's preloaded like a debit card that it counts as cash. |

My mom has returned all sorts of things to Nordstrom (including things she didn't originally buy there), I'd give it a shot. Have you checked their website to see if the Coach bag is listed and they indeed sell it?? |
First it would have to be a coach design that nordstorm's carried...secondly the bags from two years ago are retired so it would be difficult to return something that wasn't available to purchase recently. |

Well my bf said he would go and see what they say, it's his turn anyway, and he seems to always get his way. |
I had a Burberry bag that was bought at Nordstrom...about 2 years later, the material started to bubble so I brought it back and since they didnt have that style anymore, the lady let me pick any bag I wanted that was similar. The new back was a lot more than my old bag but they just did an even exchange. Nordstrom is good like that. If I were you, I would just try to go to Nordstrom and see what they say. It wouldn't hurt. If they won't accept it or can't give you much money back. try ebay. |

No help from me... good luck though! I know about mom's like that, my mom is like that times 10! We can't get takeout and "give her the night off" without her getting offended. I bought her a coach purse too using AMEX gift cards at the outlet store. It's a really nice bag, not a crazy color, and she really likes it. I got lucky that time but if I try to get her a matching wallet, I know she'll bite my head off. |
