My son's science teacher died!! I wake up this morning, check my cell phone and there are 5 messages. My son's in 6th grade and his science teacher died of pneumonia. She hasn't been out from school. She was there yesterday. My son is confused and all the kids are crying. I am sitting home helpless. I know there are counselors there that are trained to deal with this. I feel just terrible, she was a sweet older lady, but she sure did love the kids. Right before Christmas, this is just terrible. |
That is terrible. She worked right up to/including the day she died? Amazing. That's going to be an awful loss for the kids, there's not enough good teachers out there as it is. |
How sad. I'm told you can have pnemonia and not even know it! The counseler's in school I'm sure will be talking to the kids but you'll have to as well. Kids don't think of death so when it happens close to them it can really scare them if they don't understand what happened. My youngest daughter had a gym teacher who committed suicide! The kids cried for day's over it. Who knew she had personal problem's she never showed it. Very sad as well. |
How terrible. Hopefully the counselors will help. |
I feel just terrible. After all he sees her every day. I just want to be with him right now but I know he should stay there. I got an automated message from the principal a little while ago and she said there is extra staff on and greif councelors in the building. A shame. She was very sweet, yet tough. The last time I personally talked to her was over her concern for my son's grades. The funny thing was that she said her whole room was full of straw because some of the kids stayed after to make scarecrows to decorate the building for fall. So sad for her family. Do you guys think I should take my son to the wake if there is one? |

Oh my gosh, that is just awful :( I hope that your son will be okay and all of the other kids in the school as well. |
Wow, thats so sad :( I hope your son and his classmates get plenty of help and understanding and explanation from the school counselors. My thoughts go out to the family of that woman! |
I know exactly what you and the kids are dealing with. We had a fantastic family dentist for 20 years that my sons just loved and trusted. He took his life and we were all in total shock!! My kids had a very difficult time dealing with that for a long time. I will send prayers to you, your family and all the other kids and adults that are affected by her sudden passing. |
I would ask your son if he wants to go ...if he doesnt I wouldnt push going but talk to him make sure he knows anytime he feels like he wants to talk you'll listen. |
I'm so sorry! :( How sad! |
Oh that's so sad! I remember my teacher died in a car accident over the holiday break when I was in the 5th grade, that left such a mark on me. I'm glad they have counselors for the kids! |
When he came home he said he was fine. The kids were told in homeroom and he said half of the class went down to the guidance office. They were crying. It would not be his first experience as my dad passed 2 years ago. I think I will keep him home and not go to the wake. He should remember her in the classroom. |
Oh that is so devestating. :( I am SO sorry to hear about this. The relationship between students and teachers is so interesting...professional, but personal. a definite sense of trust and admiration. They're so special. I couldn't even imagine if one of my teachers died in the middle of the school year. :( I've got all the kids & her family in my thoughts and prayers. <3 My 2nd grade teacher died earlier this year. She had become a family friend as well. It was so sad. Big hugs. |
