Oh my gosh...did it EVER snow...and snow... This has been the most awful day. I was expecting a snow storm, but never in my wildest dreams did I expect anything like this! First of all...we lost power at 4 AM so no alarm clock to wake me at 6. My daughter kept calling my cell phone and finally I heard it and got woke up at 6:45. We had no power...it was dark...and have you ever tried to put make up on by candlelight? My daughter told me she was on her way to work and that there were trees down everywhere. It wasn't from the wind because that hadn't come up yet...it was from the heavy snow. About 15 minutes before I had to leave for work, the lights came on so I hurried and did what I could and then left. Melissa called me to say she was stuck and got a ride into work and had to leave her van in the road. On my way to work, I couldn't believe what I saw...it was as if a tornado had gone through the city. There were trees all over in the road and I had to weave in and out to get around them. The snow was very deep on the road, but my little honda did me good and got me to work. Just as I was making my last turn into the street where I was going, a truck was stuck so I had to stop. Had a time getting going again, but I got there. We decided to call and cancel all appointments and close it down for the day, so I came home at 11:00. When I came up my street there was a blader and bulldozer pushing trees off the street. I wished I'd had my camera. Then, I got home and into the driveway and the garage door would not open. I finally had to run around the house to the back door and get in that way. Snow was up to my knees! I got inside and finally figured out what the problem was again...no power. My cell phone was going dead, so I lit a candle and headed downstairs to find that phone that isn't a cordless and plugged that in...then spent a lot of time on the phone. Finally found a battery radio and turned that on and the weatherman said...conditions are deteriorating. As if they hadn't already? Well, the winds were to start at 40 MPH. I went outside to try to save some of our trees...shake the heavy snow out. I did on a couple and then noticed a big mess in the way back part, so headed there. It's a good thing I noticed that there were two power lines down on the ground. Yikes. I had let Maddie out to go potty before that and thank goodness she didn't run back there. I carried her to a place where there were no trees to fall on her and then carried her back in. She had snowballs stuck to her fur so got out my hairdryer...no power...so I had to wash the snow balls off her with water or she may have gotten frostbite with them sticking to her like they were. Sorry this is getting so long...there's more. The house was getting colder and when I called our power company, she told me I better find a different place to spend the night. I told her I have an aviary full of birds and she said I better get them to a safe place. Ugh. I had to start catching birds...Managed to get them all into four different birdcages...covered them with blankets and then I couldn't get to my car...18 inches of heavy wet snow...so...I started shoveling...my gosh...that snow weighs a ton! I finally got a small path shoveled alongside my car and carried all the birdcages out. Poor Maddie was so shook...I think she thought I was going to leave her...she was the last thing I loaded into the car. Also packed a bag as I thought I'd be spending the night, but the power came back on around 7 or 8, so I am back home now. I feel totally exhausted...plus still have that miserable cold. I left all my birds at my daughters house...will get them when it's not so hard to get around. I stopped by my moms...to check her house since she had no power and was at my sisters and she has trees down all over the yard...one is on top of the neighbors garage! A little park we have called oak park which has lots of oak trees looks as if a bomb hit it. This is so totally unbelievable! The wind is still blowing something awful out there. Oh yeah...while out driving, I drove under downed power lines and didn't notice till I was nearly under them because I was trying to hard to concentrate on saying in the track. Good grief...what a day! There was no absolutely no travel advised because of all the trees and powerlines down, but I had to get my birds out of this cold house. *Sigh* I'm soooooo tired! |
wow!!!!!!  what a rough day!! geez who knew snow could do so much?? i'm sorry you had a lousy tiring day, i hope tomorrow is better! i still can't believe you guys got snow.... |
Wow... Snow? And here it is 97 degrees outside today... That sucks you had such a horrible day. Send it my way, I'd love to have snow! |
4 Attachment(s) Here are some pics...I wish I'd had my camera when I was driving...could have gotten some amazing pics. Some are of our front yard and some the back. The one with the fall leaves on the tree...it is behind that one where the power lines are down...don't know if the tree is broke completely or just bent...it must be broke...but can't go around those power lines to check it out. There is one real foggy looking one of Maddie in the snow, but she hardly shows because of a wind gust at the time. |
It seems so wierd that there is already heavy snow storms. I guess I should pay more attention to the news beucause I had no idea! What a roughday you had. At least your power is back in and you are alright! Hopefully tomorrow will be better! |
OMG! I've had days like that! Not the same, but like that. The poor trees haven't lost their leaves yet, so they go fast in a heavy snow like that. What a terrible day! You'll sleep good tonight, if the power doesn't go off again... |
Good grief...they just said on the TV that the Red Cross has opened a shelter for those without power, but...pets are not allowed! What is it they all have against pets? Makes me angry! |
Looks like it's going to be a long winter this year huh? The day you described is the exact reason that I moved from Minnesota to Arizona 4 years ago. I miss home but I sure don't miss days like you just went through...It was about 100 and sunny here today! |

Holy cow, Connie- are you in ND or Antartica?! That's nuts! I'm glad to hear that you guys are safe. |
Like I said...Puerto Vallarta! |
I know what you are going through. this is the exact reason I moved south. I could care less if I ever see another flake of snow in my life. I got caught in the big blizzard in the winter of 78/79. I was seperated from my kids for a week. some very nice people saved my life by taking me into their home. I am glad you are ok. Stay warm and safe. |
Wow, Connie, I had heard they were predicting snow for you guys. Just reading your post exhausted me! Stay safe and warm! |
That is my idea of a day in HeII!!!! I HATE snow!! Now back to the pictures... :p Which one is Maddie in? I couldn't find her! |
That storm was on the news today in Rochester, NY...I thought about you when I heard it as I read your post a few days ago about the storm comming... What a bummer..hang in there and stay warm :) |
Wow!!!!!! I live in Mandan. This is really something isn't it? I hope it is not a sign of what we are going to get this winter!!!!!! What size is your little maddie? I had a perfect little yorkie that was 15 that I lost this summer. At the time of her death I had just gotten a little girl. She just turned 6 mos old on the 29th and is 2.2lbs. Does anyone have an idea from her size now how big she will get? My other one was 4 1/2 lbs. |

Wow girl you sure did get the snow...We are definetly not looking forward to it ourselfs lol....and :yeahthat: Wheres Maddie lol |
4 Attachment(s) LOL...Okay...so I forgot the picture of Maddie. I thought I had put it on...it's so bad though...you can hardly see her...she's in the middle of the pic towards the bottom...the dark splot in the snow...but if you look closely, you can see how the snow is sticking to her fur. I'm also adding a couple more of her...one is her just a couple days before the blizzard in her new warm up suit and a couple of silly ones. |
4 Attachment(s) Here's some more pics of after the storm. They are right in my area...notice the street light that is bent down low...that light actually still works and nearly blinded me tonight. LOL I may put a page of storm pics on my website and if I do, I'll post it here. I took more pics of the streets...should have taken some of the houses that are covered with trees. Unbelievable. Today I got stuck 3 times and am losing my patience fast. The last time I got stuck trying to turn around in my daughters driveway, two nice young men stopped to help me. Restores my faith in mankind! My birds aren't home yet...I told my daughter she could have em. Haha...she turned that offer down! |
