Decisions, decisions JOB CRISIS HELP ME!!! Okay, so i hate my current job with a parks dept. and i have just this week accepted a part-time with benefits position with a bank in the town i live in, (current job is 30 min away) so i'm stoked that i'll be working in my town and have benefits and have a good job at the same pay rate as i have here, only it's part-time. so then i called back another place i was looking at for part-time and they mentioned they only have a full-time spot right now. i'm thinking great i'm interested it's at a daycare facility as a teacher. it would have benefits and be full-time. so i have a meeting with them tomorrow to discuss. i'm so nervous, because i just said yes to the part-time at the bank, but what if the full-time comes through and it pays just as good if not more!??? will i look like a total jerk if i have to decline the offer i just got and tell them i cannot work for them after i just said i would????? HELP!!!???? |
Hmm, that's a tough one. I guess you need to figure out which you would like working with more. Money or screaming kids all day :) |
I would also consider this: Which has more career potential. Can the bank job transition into full time? (There is much more room to advance in banking and for sure there is more job security (in the long run). Plus I believe that you can make more money in the long run in banking than you can in child care; matching year for year. But if there is no chance of you getting full time employment in the future with the bank, then that is necessary to consider too. |
I was Director of a large claims dept for many years and did a lot of hiring, we had that happen a lot people would accept the job and then before we got them started they would call and say another position they had applied for came through and they accepted it. So really it is which ever is the best for you. Also, my dtr just quit her teller job part time and is now working at a Farmers INs agency Full time with much more potential and better salary. At the bank she never knew what time she would actually get out due to closing and balancing, hours were all over the place. She loves now knowing she works 8:30 to 5 and just gets up and leaves no balancing and counting and she has weekends off. It wasn't bad for a part time job but she didn't want to do it full time. Just a little input to consider. |
thanks for the help...i think i've decided to wait and see what the daycare will offer, it's actually an early education center, so a lot more like a teaching job than a daycare job....and online it says they pay an average of 25,000 salary which would be great to start out...i LOVE working with kids and have been missing it a lot lately. and i'd get daycare discounts and be able to raise my own kids right there with me at work from 6 weeks-12 years which i could nurse them and raise them right around me and always know their caretakers as coworkers too....i'll take it if they offer it, but they'll have to act fast because if they can't commit to me by Nov. 16 (start date at bank) then i'll have to walk on them because i don't want to start a new job, be trained and then quit...that looks bad compared to quitting before i start. anyways...thanks for the input...i'll update after my meeting tonight okay?? |
I started as a part time teller at a bank, then went to personal banker and i'm an assistant branch manager now, my next move it's to be a branch manager. Banks give you a lot of opportunity to grow, but you really have to enjoy what you do. Money is good, benefits are great, incentives keep you going. I worked for an education center for 2 weeks and it just wasn't my thing. It'a all going to depend on what you want and what's more important to you money or satisfaction. Good luck on your decision.!:) |
